How does this rear tow hook bracket assembly come apart?

The threaded tube is welded to the support bracket.
The support bracket is welded to the tail panel.

The threaded tube extends thru the tail panel into another bracket on the inside of the tail panel.
Are they attached? How are they attached?
Is the tube part of the inside bracket, or is it part of the outside bracket?

I can get you a picture later of one that is cut out. The tube runs thru the sections on both sides. It will be challenging to dissect it.
I can't image ever using that tow hook mount.
I would leave it out if you are replacing panels

If you are replacing the tail panel you probably need to replace the outlined bracket.

I made reproductions.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) its 2 pieces, & the tube is part of the inner piece
It is passed thru a hole in the tail panel.
You can see from your images its then spotted to the panel & stitched to the tube from the underside.
The way Ive done it is like you you remove the spots then split the bracket along the tube length from the top which makes it easer to access /remove then reweld after the fact. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welder.gif)

FWIW I deleted the bracket when I rebuilt and reinstalled the rear panel. I can't imagine ever using that tow hook and the trouble it could cause. I feel the same about the front tow loop on the bottom of the frunk floor.

It looks like you're on the right path on the outside bracket.
Finish drilling out the spots then grind off the welds that attach the tube with a
grinding disc.
That grinding will probably have to be done from the bottom and the top.
On the top it will be through the bracket itself but that can be a benefit when
re-attaching.
I imagine you're doing this for a proper restoration ?
I'd do the same myself.

Your feedback is very helpful, All. Those pictures are perfect, Bruce.

A proper restoration? Not sure about that but trying to make a solid tub.

This corner has collision damage. I’m trying to figure out if I’m able to save the left side of this tail panel. It is bent out of shape in several directions. In addition the fender, inner fender, and trunk floor pan are bad. Everything here will need work. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sawzall-smiley.gif)

The tow hook is in the way of banging the tail panel back into some semblance of the proper shape so that’s where I decided to start.

Thanks again for the pictures and feedback!
