Hello all. I’ve seen this topic addressed in older threads but nothing really recent. Is anyone aware of a direct fit electronic auto meter speedo adapter that threads into the 914 trans?

Thanks

Why not add the Autometer GPS interface?
https://www.autometer.com/universal-gps-spe...ace-module.html

Or, consider the GPS driver for the stock speedo:
https://fuelcurve.com/ci-drive-speedometer-interface/

Or a Speedhut GPS speedo:
https://speedhut.com/categories/gauge-types...eedometers.html

Hard part will be finding one of the 901 gearbox speedo plugs. They were offered for a while - I have one in my race car - but I haven't seen them for years.

I use one from JagsThatRun from 20 years ago or so. I've seen a similar one more recently but don't recall who made it. I'll look thru my files if I kept any of that.

Quick search. Don't know if this fits. Universal Speedometer Sending Unit for GM Mopar VW

I'm not a fan of GPS speedometers. I find them not that reliable in cities with tall buildings or in canyons and similar terrain.

Of course, my experience was with older hardware; they could be better now but I'd have to see evidence of that to change my mind.

My backup plan is indeed a gps speedo. I just was curious if an electronic speedo connector did exist.

I did indeed look at that universal one that fits GM, Mopar, VW. but wasn’t certain it would fit.

I saw that and no way it fits with Anerican 7/8 threads. Beware of parts with vague application description of GM Mopar VW.
How many thousands of models is that? No year range. No way.

I used a 911 Electronic speedometer, and an aftermarket GPS box to drive it.

Thread on my GPS speedo conversion.

Thank you all much for chiming in with your replies .... Looks as if GPS is the sure thing, with no plug/play option for an electronic conversion.

Mine looks like this except the adapter is aluminum and 914 spec. They might be able to make one that fits our trans still. JagsThatRun

IIRC the generic one I ran across a few years ago was half the price.

The 90s Vanagon T4 looked promising too.
