Does anyone recognize this fog light switch? It is what was found on our 1970 914-6. Dr. B's book indicates these should be green and has a different icon on it.

I am going to speculate that since fog lights were an option, a dealer did the install and just grabbed a functional switch. That would make it original but not factory? Still curious what it was actually intended for.

The switch does appear to be a 911 item. Probably the car was not equipped with fog lights from the factory, and was a dealer install with available parts.

Only 2 versions. Green one is correct for you. Yellow is some 73 and 74 on

Thanks. I appreciate the photo that includes part numbers!

I thought maybe the yellow was EU running lights since the icon is different?

I guess I will keep what I have for the time being, assuming it works. Then declare our car "original" if not "factory". (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) It is no where a concours car at this stage anyway.

When you unscrew the knob from the switch, it interchangable
with the other ones on the dash or is it different.?

I don't have access to the car at the moment. I will report back in a couple weeks.

If the knob part unscrews and can interchange with the emergency flasher,
it might have the correct switch under the dash and just the wrong knob on the dash.
If that is the case, I can send you this and it should be correct.

The knob on ours does unscrew, but I noticed that the switch sticks out quite a bit farther than the other knobs and has a different bezel.

The switch you have is a 911 one. Collar is 911 too.

Looks like I am one step closer. I was able to salvage this switch from a car that is sitting and rusting. Hopefully the switch works. Guess if I can find a green knob it will be easy to make it early model correct. Thanks for the insights.

for what its worth and its just an opinion.
i think the 911/912 fog light switch is a version of originality.
i'd say it dates from back in the mists of time back when the car was pretty fresh and probably only a few years old. owner fitted or even dealer fitted at owners orders using a porsche switch. its something the car has accumulated which is not exactly out of place.

if it were me i'd keep it rather than restore to a show room "Tabula rasa" which if you think about it is kind of a fiction in its own way.

cars can be interesting for what they accumulate as much as they can be interesting for being in an as built state. and i am guessing as built your car did not have the fog lights? otherwise it likely would have had the "right" switch.

anyways its just an opinion and cars should be as owners want them to be.
they are not museum pieces, they are cars to be driven and enjoyed. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Thanks for sharing this perspective. I appreciate where you're going with it. I guess, in some way, this is what has kept me from scraping off some of the old stickers found on the car. Like "Rust Buster". (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

P.S. You also forced me to learn a new word today with Tabula rasa.

i was being a bit high falutin - (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) - but its a good word.
you can use it an argument and no-one knows what you are talking about. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

good luck with your 6, been following your exploits through the photos you post here.
be a good looking car (already is). enjoy driving it when its back on its wheels.
