Does anyone have any experience with the roll pin installation with the Renigade Hybrid axle kit? I have new roll pins from Pelican and they just don’t want to go into the stub axle or spacer as easy as on Ian Karr’s video. I could put it in a press, but that won’t work with the trans axle. I could try to press them on with the 6 bolts through the spacer, but I’m not sure if there is enough torque before they’ll strip. Any ideas would be appreciated before I screw something up….thanks blob:null/59e017c3-9e8c-41d4-8946-5651ae8e75d2/“

Just did this with Renegade kit. I made sure of a good taper on the ends of the pin with the bench grinder and then pressed them in with large bench vise.

Maybe try freezing the pins (and warming the flanges)?

Have you tried installing them with a roll pin punch? I have not had to install a set on a cv axle etc yet on my 914.

Also curious what that part is. A spacer or adapter?
A couple things I can thing of: Use a bench vise a press. Secure the part (like in a vise), hold the pin with a pair of pliers, and tap with hammer to get it started. Roll pins usually have one end with a little more of a taper. That's important since the diameter is larger than the hole. If there isn't enough taper, carefully give it one on a belt sander. Doesn't need much of a taper, just a tiny one. A grinder would be too aggressive. Needs to be smooth and even. |

Ok, I haven't seen this one before. What is that kit for? @rick 918-S This kit comprises of two VW bus shafts, 4 VW bus CVs, and 4 adaptors that bolt to your stock 914 or 914-6 stub axles and output flanges to mount the Bus CVs to them. Tarrett, Renegade, Pelican, others sells the kit: https://tarett.com/collections/transmission...4-all-914hpaxle https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/PELT...amp;SVSVSI=0715 Added info for those not familiar: 914 and 914-6 CV are 94mm diameter VW bus CV are 100mm diamtere and wider than 914 CVs VW bus drive shafts are shorter than 914 drive shafts 914 CV use four M8 bolts and two roll pins, VW Bus CVs use six M8 bolts |

Montreal914 is correct about the axle. I ordered from Tarrett, but ithey came from Renigade. They seem to be kind of incestuous?
Thanks for the ideas. I’m going to chamfer the edges a bit then into the freezer they go. I assume a little grease won’t hurt anything as the old ones were covered with it. Never heard of a roll pin punch, but for 9 bucks at Amazon it couldn’t hurt. |

Never saw these. In my case I would still need one custom axle. How thick are one of those? Or the question I should have asked is how much would one lengthen the axle.

Had to exchange the roll pins on factory axles a few months ago…I did as suggested above, tapered one side just a hair, and placed the CV in a vise. Then tapped gently with small sledge hammer a few controlled times. Both went in very easily.
