When I open a 914 trans I check all 5 synchro assys by twisting them by hand and checking how far the slider drops down before it starts to compress and then snap. They usually vary from slightly firm to twist to nearly no resistance. The amount of wear in the slider is apparent also by laying the slider on top of the new installed ring and how hard of a push it takes to snap, compress and then lock them together.

Now .....I got some new bands that when installed with the circlip, they are so tight godzilla couldn't turn them....what? Is there defective synchro bands out there? I am going to measure the thickness with a mic today(clips are harder to get on than the old ones.

I would really like some feedback on how a new band should feel/move/grip on new dog teeth and used dog teeth.

Ty to anyone who could shed some knowledge on this.

perhaps some images would help & or terminology
Your replacing the new dog teeth & synchro bands ... and the locking ring, & once assembled with the accompanying bands & blocks the assembly is too tight?

No, I have only tried the new bands on old dogteeth/gears. Dont have new ones yet to compare, dont think I need them(as far as tooth condition). I have installed another one now and it seems fine, actually pretty loose. Either the gear/dog teeth condition is doing this or the bands are not the same thickness? Going to mic them today .

Ever heard of this?

Sorry its just a bit aggravating to see no one checking the 'action' of the synchro hubs,(i have looked for hours)but just saying they look good or look bad. How should they 'feel' when they are old or used or new??? Obviously old and easy to twist works on 3,4 and 5 in service, (I got that on 3 different transmissions)but what about impossible to twist?
