Even with 260 horsepower, the 914 S would have stood out as the most powerful road-going Porsche of its era had it seen the light that awaits at the end of a production line.

I feel like they did almost no research for that article. Like they asked AI to write a short and dumbed down article on the 914-8.

most interesting bit of writing is in the comments.
![]() direct quote is here. "chrome cobra" made the remark on a visit to australia. i've read it before. https://motorheritage.org.au/chuck-jordan-the-chrome-cobra/ (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) i reckon its absolutely true. piech + h k did the car more or less. with the cousin slowly excluded from any involvement in the final product. probably why i like the 914. |

The 914 has always been a 911 slayer with a competent driver behind the wheel, especially with a /6 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)

I like where they stashed the fire extinguisher. I hadn't seen the center armrest area used like that before.

Funny, but a 3.6 conversion has more power and no fabrication besides the engine tin.

Funny, but a 3.6 conversion has more power and no fabrication besides the engine tin. Very true but so does an LS engine. But a 908 engine, custom fitted to a 914 by Porsche is a very special machine. A year or two ago I read an article that interviewed one of the Porsche employees that actually fitted the engine to the car and worked on all their special projects. That article had value. This article refers to the cars as prototypes. They were never prototypes of anything Porsche intended to produce. They were specially modified cars to be given to two specific people. I lust after the silver one. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) tangerine car was built in a locked room if i recall the article correctly - even ferry porsche did not have keys to the door. |

Has anybody attempted a clone of these cars? The final result may not be completely accurate, but perhaps some folks with mad skills should attempt one... It doesn't look to be extremely difficult. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Finding a 908 engine is easier said than done hehe. Or afforded for that matter. In reality the 914-6 was already a 911 slayer. It bested all the 911s that entered LeMans in 1970 and quite a few of the top tier cars as well.

I tried to buy one a few years ago (through a Vasek broker) - as we entered into the plus 200K range I left the conversation I understand that various attempts have been made putting (2) 914 2L (or similar) engines have been joined in attempt to approximate a 908 engine........any information? |

I’ve seen type 1 engines combined to make a horizontal eight but never any type 4’s. Even if you could do it, you’re building an engine that doesn’t fit into a 914 without major work. Especially when an H6 “drops” right in. Like it was made that way - lol. People make odd stuff all the time but just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I’ve often thought of building a silver 914-8 inspired car. Copy the exterior - easy enough and put in a high raving 2.5 based aluminum engine. It would be close enough for me and something I could achieve within my skill set. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) I do have a couple mid '60's GM 4 headlight assemblies and may give it a try in my spare time (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) |
