MPS mounting rubber feet, Need to replace mine Options

Right now the MPS in my car is mounted with some sheet metal screws and old squished rubber grommets. Not at all the original mountings... Didn't see any suppliers for OE-style replacements anywhere near here, so I am looking at re-mounting it on some rubber standoffs like this:



10mm in diameter, 10mm high, M4 threaded studs (Form "SS"). Three different Shore A hardnesses available, 40, 55 and 70. The same ones without the "necking down" in the middle are also possible:



The idea is to mount the standoffs to the body sheet metal and then be able to easily bolt/unbolt the MPS on the protruding studs with M4 locknuts and flat washers. What do you think? The mounting should be soft enough to damp out vibration but not so soft to allow the thing to shake significantly.

NEW ones are NOT available. Might be able to use new gromet and install metal piece. Might take one to ACE Hardware see what you find.

Only real downside I have seen with using the stand off mounts is it puts the MPS into the fuel rail. they work but it gets really tight.

Hmm, OK, at 10mm height, I think it will only add 6mm or so over the original mount. I do have a couple of other ideas for a flatter solution if that is indeed too much.

The original mounting parts are long gone.

There are lots of rubber grommet possibilities here, but since I don't have the original sizes, I don't really know what to order yet. I take it that the openings on the MPS sheet metal support go into the grommet "slits" and the screws bolt through the centers with a metal insert that keeps the grommets from compressing too much? I can probably engineer something like that here, I thought the standoffs above would be an interesting solution allowing a variable amount of flexibility as well as easier mounting.

Basically it could just be a bushing that has an OD that is the same as the ID of the grommet and an ID the same as the bolt through it, the height being about the height of the grommet. You might find a good starting point at a local ardware store and modify it to your needs.

I think if you look around an acceptable solution can be derived.

The bushings I can fab here - I have a small toolmaker's lathe - so I just have to look around for some grommets that are around that size.

Edit - found these in my collection. The one on the left is 16mm OD, the one on the right about 18mm, both around 9mm ID with groove diameter abut 13mm. The groove diameters may not be quite small enough, but probably can be made to work.

The groove diameter of the original is 11mm, it may compress enough to squeeze into the bracket.

Went to ACE hardware and went through all the bronze bearings and the grommets in electrical dept, nothing came close. Spent 1/2 hour.

Only 3 rubber sleeves are needed per MPS.

Its a reasonable cost for the real deal part.

The PN for the metal sleeve is 311-906-057, which is NLA so find it used or improvise a substitute.

$5.88 is fine but the quote of Estimated shipping to Batesville, IN $39.80 is a non-starter.

EDIT: I just emailed sun coast to see about reasonable shipping given their small size. I'm not hopeful.

Apparently used elsewhere besides a 914 MPS… AA seems to have them in the US. Available from a number of suppliers here in Europe. Issue is still shipping I guess, cheap if you live in the same country as the supplier, otherwise probably need to combine the order with other stuff.

As for the metal bushing, not really sure you need a flange, just the correct length of metal tubing of the right diameters might be enough. Those that have access to a lathe can easily fab the bushings (or mod something existing that is close) themselves.

Yup - not real hard to find but everyone's shipping (including AA) is just bonkers on something like this. I guess if you can combine with other items on an order, you might do ok but on their own....ridiculous.
