Is there anything that I should give attention while the fuel tank is out?
I have already:
Does the box in top center of photo, which I believe is the Fresh air inlet box, need anything and does the fuel tank need to be out to do it? ![]() Our car is a 1970 914-6. My understanding is charcoal canister didn't appear until later. Tips on installing the fuel hose to lines so I don't end up with a leak? Thank you. |

Did you replace old fuel lines that go through the tunnel to engine? Also Fresh air box is best taken out and re installed with tank out. If needed repairs to fresh air box. |

Not trying to nit pick because you have a beautiful car, but is it possible that you have small issue on passenger side corner of that firewall. Looks like it could use some welding and seam sealer? Or maybe it's just the camera making things look a little off. Seems like you have most the bases covered on things to do when the tank is out. As previously mentioned, might want to address the fresh air box/fan while you're in there.
Fair warning, the plastic air box can be brittle in spots, so if you do open it, do it with care. |

I took out the original plastic lines and replaced them with stainless steel lines from Tangerine. The car has never been more than a roller since I've had it. Can you offer any suggestions on what to look for with regards to the fresh air box? Thank you. |

Or maybe it's just the camera making things look a little off. Pick-away. The car had some questionable attention from a previous owner. The rust colored primer appears to have been part of a Rust-buster treatment the car got at one stage. I have avoided restoring, but have been refurbishing what I've needed to touch to get it running and for safety. Here's a better shot of that corner. You can see where I welded closed the holes from the incorrect sway bar that was installed with screws. My welding clearly still needs practice. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welder.gif) ![]() |

Thank you. \ Some times that Air Box just a lot of junk in there like leaves, pine needles. 914 Rubber sells a kit to refurbish it. Also there is a screen that can be put on the top of box that helps keep out the junk. Also you test the motor if you take it out. It's not hard just a pita. Ian Karr has a great video about installing back in. |

There is a drain at the bottom of the gas hole. Make sure it is clear. There should also be a couple of pads/carpet type pieces that are glued in place. The help noises and metal to metal rubbing if the tank moves a little.

Yup, replace the felt pads that the tank rests on. Clean up where they go, repaint if necessary. Check the gas tank where it sits on the pads; they hold moisture pretty well and can promote rust pinholes in the tank in those spots.

Check to see that the fresh air fan and wiper assembliescwork on all speeds. I did not and found the register in the fan was blown after fully assembling and installing the tank.
