I am using 96mm cylinders and the "vertical fin" of tin that goes behind behind the pushrods is hitting the cylinder....

What has anyone else that has had this issue done?

Is there another tin option available for 96mm cylinders?

How drastic will trimming it affect cooling?

Thank you

I just updated to 96mm from a stock 2.0 and the tin went on without issue. Not sure what you have.

I installed biral cylinders and had to trim the tin to fit. Runs cool.

Thank you. I was thinking if/when I trim it that it will be bringing the tin closer to the cylinder effectively suffocating air flow. Doesn't sound like you're having that issue.

thx you again

Something looks wrong. What side is problem? Where is problem with fitment? 2056 air guides fit just like 2.0 or 17.

I would trim it so you get roughly the same amount of top clearance between the tin and the cylinder barrels as you had/have with the old cast iron cylinder barrels. VW and Porsche knew what they were doing when it came to designing the cooling system of these Type 4 engines.

If the trim rubs against the new cylinder barrels, you will probably end up getting some weird noises from the engine when it's running and things start to expand and then contract during cool down times.

That's what it seems like but I'm pretty sure it's the right part.... unless they were slightly different by size engines ?.... I have two sets and they match

Yes, I agree. Taking my time before measuring once and cut twice. Thx u

doubt it is wrong part. baffle plates are universal to all engines. 1.7, 1.8 and 2.0
just a left and right part.

Nothing on the engine changed size with the 96mm jugs.

Did you remove that baffle from a type 4 motor?

Thx for the thought provoking help Matt.... it's the cylinders.... they're wider further down on the cylinder than the usuals. There's more fin surface area. Dang it....

I appreciate everyone's help

Well, at least you have more fun surface. However up higher might be more effective....

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) ,the op clearly has biral cylinders...never seen cast iron look like those, nice upgrade BTW.
Cut them after making suitable reference marks and take your time till they fit without touching the cylinder fins as mentioned, cheers.
