I recently read that the '75 Copper Metallic 2.0L was very rare color option.
I had one in the 1980s, it was in perfect condition with the exception of a weird dent at the top/corner of the left-rear body panel. Does anyone know how rare this car/color combination was? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stirthepot.gif) Thank you, CTC911CTC |

So right now there is one in CA(Jim Hoylands), one in GA/SC(mine), one in Peoria, IL, one in TX and 2 more that i have seen in the past few years, one that was in FL that got shipped overseas. So maybe a few more will pop up but i would bet there are not more than a dozen at this point so id say that's fairly rare. Phil |

i would imagine that any of the 4 metallic colors from 75/76 would be reasonably rare.
extra cost option would have naturally limited them to being noticeably less common. but all 4 were fashionable for their time so probably roughly equal in numbers. the copper seems unusual these days as a color, but back then was a pretty smart high fashion color for 75 and the colors were the updates to VW paint range for the new sciroccos. copper metallic sciroccos were abundantly featured in VW sales literature of the time as was that beautiful green metallic. they are all great colors those metallics. the only place records would exist is within VW or the Karmann archives. you can get VW birth certificates for Karmann built cars and it lists paint color. so presumably somewhere in VW's archives would be a number on how many were produced. its enough to say its rare. as to surviving numbers would be very hard to know. |

Are we including the former GRM Challenge Suby Turbo powered "Dirty Penny" in the count?

Go to Rennbow. Rarity of all Porsche factory colors are rated in paint cans. 5 paint cans is rare, 1 paint can is common. I'd guess Gold Metallic is 3 or 4 paint cans.
