While turning into a parking space I felt a tug on my hand. My finger snagged my key chain and mortally bent the key. Being the only key I have I'm down to starting my car with a pair of pliers.
Who can re-cut 914 keys? I tried once locally an no one would do it. Attached image(s)

My local Porsche dealer was able to cut one for me.
They did want a registration card/title with my info on it before doing so. |

Well, you're probably going to have to remove the ignition switch to get the rest of the key out anyway... Once you have the broken piece to copy from, a decent key-maker person might be able to clamp it in their key-copy machine. Key blanks seem to be easily available. |

You may be able to dig out the broken part with two sharp picks. Any locksmith should be able to cut a key. Call around locally. Its a common VW blank.Curt can do it too. Do you have a spare to copy? If not pull the rear trunk lock and have a key made to it. Much easier than pulling the ignition lock.

I’ve always been able to get them out with very small needle nose pliers or a pick. Call around to your local locksmith and if nobody wants the job, send it to Curt/TheCabinetmaker. He did a broken key for me and it was an excellent job.

I had these made at the local locksmith. IIRC, I bought the blanks on eBay.

I took one to a local dude and he said he couldn't do it and when I pressed him about it he cut the key and really f-ed it up. I think he was pissed that he didn't sell me a key. |

Me too, slow and steady and it slipped out for me.... Try to find a local guy who does work on old VW's. I was lucky to find a guy by my office and he was thrilled to do it for me and make extra keys. He was really into the project... I love people like that who appreciate craftsmanship. I took the tumbler and the broken key to him and he fixed me up the next day. |

Try shoving some thin double sided sticky Scotch tape in there. Perhaps this has already been suggested.

There is nothing special about 914 keys, any competent lock shop should be able to cut them. Lock shop near me actually carries the proper black plastic head Porsche keys as well as the valet profile keys. Not sure if that is just because I am lucky or because I have had then cut so many of my own I brought in that they decided to stock them. That said if you don't have a competent locksmith near you @TheCabinetmaker Curt should be able to sort you out. Anything beyond cutting a key or re-wafering a single tumbler or two we sent to Curt. Get multiples made, then you wont have to do this again. |

Once the extraction has been successful……tell the locksmith it’s for a Volkswagen not some semi rare vintage Porsche…….i bet he will give it a try!

Took the only (broken valet) key for my car to a locksmith, he had no blanks so I bought two sets off eBay. Took them back to the locksmith to get cut. The locksmith ruined one key and told me to GTFO!
Took them to the kid at the mom and pop hardware store, cut them no problem. When I told him they were for a Porsche, N/C! |
