I want to do a 5 lug conversion, and went and talked to Bill at Eason Auto Works in Oakland. He said he could do it, and the best way to go about it was sourcing front struts from a 74-81 911sc - complete with brakes. He also said it was going to be tough to find.

I've looked a little online, and it seems a little bleak, but also I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for. Is there a photo or list or something that shows me absolutely everything I will need? Minimally? Maximally?

Also, what's the best way to go about finding these things? What would you do?

Any info would be much appreciated.

First step, determine which front struts you really want. This is based off what brakes you are going to run. You have options of 3.0" or 3.5" caliper spacing as well as Boge(black), Koni(red/orange), or Bilstein (green) front struts. Bilstein struts are the best if you are going to drop spindle (lower) the front end. Bilstein struts can only use Bilstein inserts. Boge struts are the best in terms of price and insert options since you can get Boge, Koni, or Bilstein inserts for them. Koni struts are more rare as they were special order options, can only take koni inserts, but are adjustable. If you go with 3.5" spacing you can do with A or S calipers. A perfect match for those in the rear would be Eric Sheas repop 914-6 calipers. If you do not want to upgrade your calipers you can use a 3.0" strut with solid rotor front rotor, or ad spacers and get a vented in the front. You can also go the cheap route and drill the rotors for 5 lug and install studs but that only gets you the benefit of 5 lug wheels.

3 inch struts and brakes are easier to find and completely adequate
What pmb recommends and cheaper than 3.5
You still get the vented brakes that came on the -6

You’ll likely need new rotors, brake rebuild kits, and ball joints you can source from pmb
