74 1.8L
Had clutch replaced and shop didn’t reconnect the ground strap when putting the trans back up. Hence the sluggish starting issue. Couldn’t find where to connect it to the trans, so connected it to the engine mount bolt (ground confirmed; see pic). New OEM strap is same length as old.
I’ve replaced it before but don’t think I used the engine mount.
Where should it go on the trans?

Concourse-wise I have no clue. But functionally, to any metal on the engine or transaxle.

I have mine under one of the transaxle tail case nuts.

The ground strap attaches at the transmission tail housing. Remove an upper nut and install the strap.
Heck if you look you may find that the shop either left the nut loose or removed it from where the strap belongs.

You were very fortunate that you didn't have a fire. Good to hear that it didn't happen.

When the transmission ground strap is left disconnected, your clutch cable is the likely path for electricity. Just ask George Hussey about his experience when he left off the ground strap (he just had to install a new clutch cable and reconnect the ground strap).

That ground strap attaches to a pressed-in threaded stud on the trunk floor immediately above the trans.

Anyone have a pic of the location where it connects to the trans? Still don’t see it.

Whew! Since it did start albeit sluggish my guess the strap was still touching the trans case, just not real solidly. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif)

It *really* doesn't matter which bolt/stud you attach it to, it just needs to be attached, but here a pic of the one on my race car using one of the top studs.

And these types of grounds straps are common if you need/want more length.
