I'm trying to get everything together that I will need to finally drop the motor so I won't have any excuses left to keep kicking the can....
I need a new floor jack anyway, and I want to buy the Tangerine lifting plate.
Any advantages/disadvantages of using the post model vs the Allen screw model?
What size and type of jack? limited use so Harbor Freight models or similar are fine.
What is the best height for dropping the motor? The car will be level unless there is a reason for it not to be.

Tallest Daytona jack you can get and the tangerine lift plate.

Don’t cheap out on the Jack. A good Jack makes a huge difference. I’ve done drops on everything from an el cheap K-mart two ton which was tippy and too short to a good Daytona (the snap-on knockoff). The stability of the jack makes a world of difference.Attached Image

And make sure you have jackstands too. Never get under a car without jackstands.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) have the exact same setup, quick, simple and works great. JACKSTANDS and make sure the chassis withstands the shake test

I have two of the Daytona jacks and the bolt through Tangerine plate. I have 1 blue and 1 gray Daytona, I wish I had the yellow, as I think it raises a little bit higher than the blue/gray ones. You want the taller jack so that you car reach the motor safely when the car is raised up in the air high enough to be able to slide the motor out.

You can sometimes time your purchase with one of the big sales and get a pretty good price on them.

I always put the tires under the carr as well as the cal stands, just for extra insurance.

Worth every $$ for doing this job....makes it so easy and safe

As mentioned above a good jack like shown that has a high lift dimension ....you want the car high enough and don't want to make the mistake of not jacking the car high enough and having the engine especially carbs hit the rear of the engine compartment when trying to take the engine out.

AC Hydraulic has some great high lift floor jacks but they are expensive. Not in my garage, probably better for a business, not a hobbyist.

I have had AC Hydraulics jack for longer than I can recall.
Expensive yes but lift was highest possible and for a 6 it was necessary (to me).
Pelican sells but others as well. Back when I bought it, Harbor discontinued a high lift and this was only option.

IIRC there was some machine work involved to adapt the Tangerine plate to the HF Daytona jack

Mine dropped right in but my Daytona is probably 8 years old so can’t speak to any recent changes they may have made.

Could get measurement from Chris for his plate and verify to whatever is in stock at local HF.

Sorry can’t get tangerine plate for you - buried in storage somewhere.

Talk to Chris for plate dimensions or his ability to modify to whatever jack you end up with

I purchased my HF Daytona jack a year or so ago and removing the pad was a chore, also had my local friendly machinist make an adapter to accommodate the plate from
Tangerine

mine is not threaded as shown

I sold my last one off the shelf a week ago and I haven't yet started assembling the new parts which arrived yesterday.
The yellow jack shown accepts the standard screw-on lift plate. However, I measure the head of the big Allen screw.

I've already taken so much time starting this project due to my "2 year" restoration of my boat that took me 9 years, so another couple of weeks won't matter lol
A trip to Harbor Freight with a caliper should clear it up....
