I decided to remove the front hood lower latch from the 1970 914 (6) as I did not think it was springing back properly after opening the front hood. I assumed it was missing the second spring which assumes this function on the spare latch I have which is from a 1972 or 1973 914. I discovered the two latches are not identical which I did not expect (see the photo). I temporarily removed the small additional spring on the later latch (which has the round connector to the cable versus the square connector)which is why it is not depicted in the photo. The earlier latch not only does not have this additional spring but it does not have the two drilled holes into which the spring attaches. Other differences are apparent in the photo. BTW, both have the same part number.
