Maybe Marty can weigh in on this. The 3.0 liter twin turbo motor in my Macan GTS is so freaking amazing, I wonder if it would fit in a 914? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Anything will fit. All it takes is money.
Having said that, there are a few engines out there i'm still ogling. But my targets are all air-cooled. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

I looked into this and went so far as separating the starter ring gear from a Macan flywheel. Talked with Kennedy about an adapter. The issue is you need to convert the engine to dry sump as the Macan sump is quite deep. I even talked with Marty about his set up.
As @SirAndy points out, it's doable, but I opted for something simpler... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) If you decide to go this way, let me know. I have a ring gear I don't need. |

Only 3) things needed; Torch, Hammer, Machine shop (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
The h2o cooled Macan, Cayenne engines have great dry sump oiling systems, however the system is internally placed in the 'Pan. This creates a very deep and low hanging oil pan...if you plan to build an 'Offroad 914 jacked up >>you will probably not scrape the oil pan, it is approx 9" lower than the centerline of crankshaft. Custom cnc machined aluminum low-profile oil-pan, combined with an external dry sump pump is the solution. Also the requirement for a cnc aluminum adapter plate for use with a manual transaxle, as these engines do not resemble a standard VW/ or Porsche bolt pattern for direct interfit. The OE crank trigger signals are located back in the starter-ring area...so to simplify your ecu management > a new trigger should be adapted to the front of the crank area. Front & custom dry sump pan, dry sump pump, crank trigger wheel. Note the centerline distance of the crank pulley-to-bottom of pan, it's "911/ 9146 like" with ample ground clearance. |

Aluminum adapter plate is approx 1" thick, which will 'Push' your choice of transaxle rearwards by 1".
The wide 'V design of ghe v6/ v8 engine will clear the 914 unibody, and the trailing arm mounting points. The large 'Wilson intake plenum obviously does NOT fit under the 914 grill, but the OE plastic intake manifold will clear. |
