Hi.. I’m experiencing a small oil leak on my 74 2.0 I believe could be the oil cooler my question is can I access this from the top without dropping engine to inspect and or repair? TIA Dennis

You can slip an endoscope in there by the oil pressure sender or through the tin holes where the coil mounts. Not gonna see much though. You can replace the seals without dropping the engine but the last time I did that it turned out to be a blown cooler, not the seals. And it is time consuming so you might as well drop the motor unless you are sure it's the seals and even then, I would drop the engine and use the opportunity to do some cleaning.

Check your oil filter first. Don't ask.

If you can confirm it is the seal(s) that are leaking - yes, they (technically) can be replaced without dropping the engine. However, beware - I did this job last year, and even with a lift it was tedious.

See this link for tips: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=26033

If you decide to go this route, I can post some photos I took when I did the job so you can see what you're up against.
