as i said in the other thread i can only look at the thing for short durations. the valve adjs are just hammered. the damn thing is down to a case, cam, lifters, barrels, rods, and a crank. if i wanted to build a god damn engine i would have just used the 2.0 core that i already had. The power of Google..................

Sounds like a european motorworks "G" grind....

If it has ever been used, and you do not have the lifters that were run with it- do NOT use it...

If it is new, take your gambles on some lifters that are currently on the market and see what happens..

VERY noticable wear on one of the lobes. both visually and you can feel it when you run your finger over it. with the eccessive spring rates (duals) and whatever else was wrong, the lash caps and the adjusters were pounded pretty hard. so... new cam and lifters i guess. then there's the dilema of the "lifter issue" that i never saw or heard of being resolved. i don't know what the hell to do now.

this is the worst of them all. you can make out the taper to the one side of the lobe. you can really feel the drop when you run your finger over it. why would it be so off center? lifter not sitting square to its bore?

so much for an engine with 3 tanks of fuel run through it. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif) i spoke with him last week geoff. i'm hoping he will look at this thread. now to figure out which cam? rummor has it there's a std/std crank local. gotta see if i can get the easy payment plan on it. jeanne noted the spike in the visa bill last night. As far as the failure.............

1.) Improper break-in of the cam

2.) Defective lifters (are they mushroomed)

3.) Improper matching of components (hard face cam lobes and soft lifters or visa versa...poor heat treating....

4.) Poor oil supply

5.) A 9000 RPM run up (several missed shifts or the motor was pounded & starved for oil)

6.) Excessive valve spring pressure

7.) Coil bind of the valve springs (improper installed height - Bent pushrods?)

8.) Defective grind on the cam

I can keep guessing.....................
