My wife's uncle unfortunatley passed away last week. He lived in Germany Calamine (sp) don't hit me Anday.
Anyway he bought and sold cars, to what degree I don't know, but there are a few at his house. My mother in law told the wife there is a nice Porsche in the bunk house. She told my wife or my wife heard it was a Cabrera. I assume she means Carrera, going to call her in Germany to check. My question is does anyone know if the car was in great shape, would it be worth the cost to ship, as well as make legal in the states? Any idea what might need to be done, and at what cost? THey are leaving to come home on the 28th, so I am hoping to gather enough information to decide if it's worth it.. |

"Carrera" covers a lot of ground.
Carrera-2's (a 2,0-liter 4-cam 356) go for hundreds of thousands in good shape. Carrera GTS == 904. Carrera-6 == 906. 2,7RS Carrera can be big money; never officially available here. same with 3,0 Carrera (not available, but less valuable generally.) newer cars have much less difference between US and ROW. you need to know *exactly* what you're dealing with... |

As I recall, there was a Carrera verion of the high demand 924s. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) Probably worth hundreds.

I'll take as many as you can supply for "hundreds". Sometimes Porsche actually used the name for what it stood for originally. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) |

OK - assuming excellent condition, possible highwater mark... 904 - 1,5 million (~150 made) 906 with race history - $500,000 Carrera-2 - $800,000 2,7RS lightweight - $350,000 2,7RS Touring - $175,000 3,0 Carrera - $75,000 924GTS - $100,000? by the time you get into the "new" Carrera (also Called Carrera 2 or Carrera 4) there isn't much difference from a US car and probably not worth the cost to import and federalise. with a million in the bank you should be ready for anything... |

Rich, Your talking about the estimated value of those particular models in the states correct? I'm wondering what transportation might run, as well as making the car legal in the states. I will post specifics tomorrow, that way I will know what the hell I'm talkin about... |

What about the more likely/mass produced 84-89, 911 'Carrera' starting at $15k and going up to the mid $20's?

yes. cost to transport and Federalise, i donno. it's a lot easier to Federalise now than it used to be but i don't claim to know any of the rules. there are people who specialise in ocean transport, more'n a few people have sent cars back to Germany on the 356 List. i can make some inquiries if you determine it's what you need to do... |

yup - Porsche kinda got pretty liberal with their use of the term. IMO - a 964 "Carrera" isn't that special, but it there's a family connection and it's less than you could get one, net, here, it could still be worthwhile, although you'd probably have to deal with Federalisation which is nontrivial... or at least it used to be. i don't claim to be current on this stuff... |

Shipping to Europe has been @ $1500 for the last five cars I sent over. You will probably want to contact a Euro transport facilitator. They will help get the car to the dock for shipping onto the ship and to the USA. Probably Long Beach Calif. if that is where you are located near
Let us kno wwhat kind of Porsche it turns out to be. CCLINTRANSPORTERII? |
