Is it just me, or is Rennlist really "dying"?

Traffic on the 914 and racing email lists is almost nil, esp. in terms of actual p-car content. About the only stuff I visit anymore is the racing web forum (some decent threads, actually) and the classifieds. Both of those are open to the public and I would guess that 80% of the users are not members. In fact the member classifieds are always almost empty; the "guest" classifieds are the only ones worth looking at.

I've been a member since 1999 and this is the first time I have even blinked at renewing. I honestly feel like I'd rather toss the $18 to this board, or Dave's fund, or to another magazine subscription.

Am I the only one who feels like Rennlist is "slipping"?

Not from my perspective. I find good things about both lists. Mark

Mark, I guess I should clarify that I'm not saying Rennlist is "bad".

But it is much, much smaller and "different" in attitude and content than a few years ago.

The 914 list used to have like 100+ posts a day and dozens of highly active posters. Now it's more like 5-10 new posts max, most days, and IMHO the "content ratio" is meager.

Yeah, Rennlist has slowed down a lot in the years since I joined, but I think it's because a lot of the "conversation" posters (Jeff, Sammy, etc) aren't as into the cars as much. Plus having this List to "chat" on means less traffic over there. I see many names that used to post there are now posting here. I'm not bashing anybody for anything, just passing on my .02 worth. As I said, I find good things about both, and intend to fully support both. I wish I was going to be able to join you all saturday after German Autofest, but I'll have to be up reeeeealy early sunday to unload 2 vanagens full of parts for the swapmeet, so slammin' the brews will have to wait. Hope to see many of you there. Mark

When my membership is up, it's up and over. I read the racing list, but a couple times this summer it turned into a pissing match between two 944 tuners who disagreed. Then there was the big harness bar discussion.

I don't read the 924/944/968 forum anymore and I quit reading the 914 forum about may or june.

The only 914 & T-IV-related sites I predominately visit are Pelican Parts' 914 Forum, ShopTalk's Type 4Forum & 914 Forum, and Yours Truly; they're about the ONLY sites you can get any definative 914-type info, other than "What type of carnuba wax do you use on your Cab?" *or* "Is Windex way too harsh for my Turbo's windshield?"

And yes, I would pay to be a member here ...

Can someone tell me what benefit there is to Rennlist anymore?

Are there any discounts at any Porsche parts places any more that make it worth it? If so where, and what is the savings?

No real topic discussion any more?

You can still view the classifieds (or what little there is anymore) for free.

So.. why spend the $$$

Got my membership renewal from RennList as well...
Well... actually, it's Zoey's membership (which I got her when she was born). I'm a "lifer"
But the action on RennList is really down for quite some time

I have good memories about it though (geez, I sound like an oldtimer) and if it wasn't for PorscheList/RennList, I'd never gotten this deeply involved with both the cars (specially technically) or even the internet...

Dunno about the renewal yet... It's here somewhere on my "paper stash"
I guess it'll depend on my mood what I'll do with it, when it goes through my hands again

cheers,

Jeroen

My wife will be with some of here friends.. and I will make the comment: "I'm going to Borders Books to buy some Porn"... they flip out and ask her why she allows me to have PORN in the house..blah blah...

I come back with "RaceCar Engineering" and they breath a sigh of relief...

That 911 Performance Handbook I bought a few weeks ago was the same one you and I were looking at at Barnes and Noble when you were up here visiting your wife. I should have got it then (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
