It will kinda stumble and miss with a real lack of power until about 2800. After that it pulls strong.

I set the timing the on Fri. at 3500 rpm and the mark on the fan linned up in the v groove on the housing.

I rebuilt the dist. last night but only removed the nut holding it to the case.

I it possible with the rebuild, the timing is different?? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif)

I believe that the groove represents TDC on #1 you will need to time the engine for 27 degrees BTC for a 1.7 or 2.0 at 3500 RPM.

YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG

and I have no idea what motor combo you are running. Carbs/ Dizzy etc.

3500 RPM full advance on the left edge of the oval casting mark on the thick web of the fan.

Looks like you are majorly retarded. Nothing personal (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/beer.gif) I'm sure you are pretty smart.

the motor runs ok when first started. I did find a couple of vac. leaks, one at the cold start valve and another at the intake man. gasket. I will address those and try again

the engine is a stock 1.7 with the stock FI and stock Dizzy.

When I set the timing @ 3500, I disconnected the vac. advance, brought the motor to 3500 and checked that the 27* timing mark on the fan was in the V groove on the housing.

things may have changed after I rebuilt the dizzy, I think I was having a problem with the mechanical advance.

One thing I found wrong with my 1.7L FI dizzy was the electrical contact between the advance plate. Once I cleaned it up and adjusted the tension of the spring and contact it was much better.

ANY vacuum leak will affect how the engine manages fuel specially the MPS function.

Here's what I came up with.
after resetting the dwell I disconnected the vac. advance hoses and plugged the off.

I spun the motor up and at 2k the 27* timing mark was in the V groove.

way too advanced.

I reset the timing and plugged everything back in, it is a little better now.

I still have a miss in the low rpm's but I think it's air leak related.
