The 914 looks like Doug's car. If it is I'm sure he took some great pics.

I like how the guy starts the thread with the babe pics. Typical Sebring. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif)

That was Doug's 914-6, unless someone else has an "EIN-6ER" liscense plate. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif)

I was there Friday and Saturday. I saw Doug's car in the Porsche corral but didn't see him.

It was a hot and dry weekend. Very dusty as is typical for Sebring.

The new R10 is another technical winner for Audi. It is almost silent compared to the other turbo entries, not to mention the normally aspirated cars. Although one of the two Audis broke they were never really challenged. I guess the Audi steamroll will continue with this new car. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/idea.gif)

I watched a few hours on SPEED. Are there other cars in the AUDI's P1 class?

The only question was is a P-2 car going to win overall if the Audis broke?

I think there were a total of 6 LMP1 cars: 2 Audi's, 2 Dyson Lola's, 1 HighCroft Lola and 1 Autocon Lola (these last two Lola's are the former Dyson team cars from last year).

There were also 7 LMP2's, 6 GT1's, and 16 GT2's.

35 cars?(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/screwy.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif)

Back in the Roarin' '80s there would be over 60 cars.

Yeah, 35 cars is pretty light, but it's been like that for the past few years. Later in the season when the sprint races come around the field will drop into the twenties. The cars are technically great but damned expensive for teams to run.

The last big field I remember at Sebring was 1999, with LMP1's from Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Panoz, Dyson R&S MkIII, (all with 2 cars) and several other Ferrari 333SP's and R&S's, plus the smaller prototypes and the GT classes. After that it was Audi domination and a decline in car count. (By the way, in 7 years of racing the Audi R8 did not have a single engine failure in a race.)

The starting field at the Daytona 24 Hrs this year was about 70, with about 30 Daytona Prototypes and 40 GT cars. It's a different type of racing though. The DP are restricted and to some extent remind me of a spec class racer, while the GT cars are even more restricted to make sure they can't beat a DP. But they are more affordable and it shows.

IF Audi had only done with the R8, what Porsche did with the 962s, and build some Customer racecars,
THAT would've made for some exciting racing.

I *think* the two Champion Audi R8's were like the 1st or 2nd generation cars, with the factory Audi team 'updating' their own cars, they added the FSI and sold the previous years cars to Champion.

tmi = yea, maybe! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif)

I was there too! I saw Doug. I had never met him before. Very freindly and racing crazed too. He slept in his car! Yes. The 914. Its not like he is a little guy, either. I couldn't believe it. But he doesn't have a center console....
Those Audis are too perfect.
Swoosh- nothing but net. They weren't loud enough to be race cars, imo. The Spyders sounded like Porsches though. A real scream in the revs. Al in all it was great though. I think ALMS is the best racing in America. They really go all out to make it a PARTY! The Porscheplatz was right across from the Bicardi Party zone. During the "pit walk" before the race I stood there next to (!) Roger Penske while he talked to the team about the start. I love the way you can watch the cars being repaired in the paddock. One Dyson Lola blew by me with smoke billowing out as it went from the track through the pits and straight to the paddock.
It was sorta like a NASCAR race too. The turn 10 area especially. It has a tradition of lots of really, uh, enthusiastic partying and voluntary displays of female anatomy.
I really hope that the rules advantages for diesel cars are eliminated. I think the Porsche is almost equivilent to the R-8 audis, but the R-10 is a like new rung on the ladder.
When I saw Doug's club sticker, I had to take a pic.

I was there as well, and had a great time! I met Doug, and he gave me a ride with him on the track when the PCA had their parade laps on Friday. What a great sound his 914-6 makes!

Doug- Thanks for the ride! It was great to actually be on the track.
