When I connect either one of the horns directly to a battery with a jumper cable I get no sound at all. Switching polarity doesn't help. Do I have 2 bad horns??? I want to install my front bumper soon so I need to figure out what the problem is. How do you test and/or repair these?
Should the horn sound when connected directly to a 12 volt battery or am I missing something? |

Hook up power and smack em with a hammer. If they don't start working, or sound funny, hit em again.
Don't overdo it or your horns may end up a little "flat"... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) |

I haven't mounted the horns on the car yet, so there is no ground from the horn to the body. I connected jumper cables to my car battery and the other ends directly to the two lugs on the horn - no sound. Is this the correct way to do this? I think the PET CD shows a rubber grommet or something similar that isolates the horn from the body when mounted. So I assume that the two lugs on the horn are the only electrical connections. There is also an adjustment screw. try turning it in and out while hooked up to power. Once I got it to work it scared the BEE Geebies out of me. them little horns are LOUD.
light whacking also works. just put some ear plugs in so you don't piss your pants when it all of a sudden HONKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/av-943.gif) |

Mine work when hooked directly to a battery. They suck and I want to get some new horns.
Not as funny as when I was testing all my driving lights and then blinded myself and staggered around my basement like Fred Sandford grasping for something to hold on to. Cracked my dog up... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/av-943.gif) |

i recently installed a dual-tone horn setup, and sometimes these horns need a little extra help in the grounding department. one of my horns sounded fine, the other was really weak, until i ran a second ground wire.

Thanks Bondo! This worked. I connected up the cables again to one horn and (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smash.gif) ! It sounded a little sick at first but eventually it sounded like a horn. The other one will need more (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smash.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smash.gif) , or possibly it's DOA. |
