Looking for opinions on any of the newer competition tires. I'm going to
be pulling the trigger soon and want to do the best thing.

Here is relevant data on how I'm going to use them:

* Stock 914-6
* ~0.5 camber (no camber plates)
* 205/50/15 (stock fenders)
* Autocross only, no DE
* driven to events (50 miles each way)
* cost not a factor
* would like them to withstand idiots (myself) locking up fronts occasionally

Based on the victoracers I have had for the last 3 years (which still haven't
really worn out), I know tires of that 'treadwear' will last me a long time.
Without any other info, those are at the top of my list right now.

Thanks for any input.

trust me, your victoracers are worn out. There may be rubber left but after 3 years of heat cycles, they are gone.

I would get another set of the victoracers, I run them on my race car and find them to be very predictable and wear well. Hoosier just came out with their 4th generation R tire, R4SO4 I think. They are supposed to wear better but only time will tell.

The hoosiers are very light, they don't have steel belts. That may be a problem since you drive the car to events. (punctures) Also consider that the hoosiers are much easier to flat spot since they have so much less inertia than the heavier VR.

I talked a local guy that gets Kuhmos for free.
They are comming out with a new Rspec tire in time for next season, says he. Since (according to a GRM test) the Kuhmos were .2 slower than the AX Hoosiers and are a hell of a lot cheeper, the new ones may be worth the wait.

Not a "R" tire, but if you are in the area, you can try my car out with the Falken tires....you should get more grip with the Kumo though.....I would vote for the hoosiers....but beware of flatspots.....good luck, herb

Thanks for all the info so far. I think you're confirming my rumors about
hoosiers, they wouldn't be right for me.

I just had a great idea; can I have the new tires shaved on camber?
There's probably a good reason why people don't do this but hey I
have to think about something.
