Got this car for a song, it's a 1977 924 convertible. Now before you say (yuck), look at these pictures. It's an all steel kit! Even the rear trunk is all steel. It runs and drives great. Needs body and paint and a new top, but damn, no timing belt issues and 30mpg. Also, check out this link, this convertible kit looks like ass compared to the 924 I picked up. So I know this is a quality kit.

The finish work is really detailed and factory looking. I don't know what to make of it? Why would someone spend all this time and money on a 924? Or is this kit something old enough to put on a 924 when they were still worth 75% of new?

Is that a 924 or a 944? The rear fenders are 944, but the round side marker lights are 924. And the badge in back says 944. I'm confused.

I have a set of correct tires/wheels (BBS Style) for the flared fenders I could put on. Those rims are 15 inch, but not spaced out correctly.
A whopping 95hp doesn't seem like much, but with no top, it's a fun little car. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) The interior is pretty decent too. Just the drivers seat is F'd up a little. Seat covers fix that. Needs windshield. Flugde, another Pcar to dump money into? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) |

944's weren't available until 83 It's a 1977 Martini Edition 924, which means it was originally white. Still has the red carpeting and seat inserts. The fender flares were glued or welded on? Don't know, they are steel though. Somone I am sure put the 944 badge on the back. It looks like a 944, but isn't. |

I like it! Put in a Audi turbo 5-cyl (924 uses an Audi engine anyway right, haha) or a V8...paint it the original Martini Edition colors, put on those BBS wheels, remove the 'reflector' and the 944 badge and you are set!
Keep this post alive with the updates too. |

Yeah, even though it's not a 914, it's a cool little car and I will post updates here. Michelle and I decided to keep the little car and fix it up for her to drive. We have already decided to remove the front fenders and lower air dam and replace it all with real 944 parts. We replaced the bad rear drum yesterday (why it wouldn't move) and drove it around a little. It runs/drives really nice. I'll post more pictures as we do work. It may be fun but it doesn't look like it's worth restoring with new paint and a new top. Maybe it should get a $500 Maaco paint job and the whole in the top stitched/patched in place?

This is what a real 944 S2 Cab looks like. So this is certianly a very unique kit of some sort. Proves it has got to be old. Who would do this to a $500 924? Someone must have done this when the car was still worth $2-3k I am thinking?

They probably did it back when a real 944 S2 Cab still cost $30K.

Drive it like it is. Throw seat covers on it and don't worry about what the paint looks like.
P.S.....the 924's should not be considered for the V8 swap as the frame isn't strong enough. That's why a certain company quit selling kits for them |
