That gear makes a bitchin' Ring box of:

B-H-M-R-V
or
B-H-N-S-W

The first one would be easy to do with a few stock 914 gears.
How much do you want for it?

Uhh, you would need an H mainshaft to do that. I think he probably has a second gear from a 912 4 speed, which would only fit in a 5 speed as 3rd. You can flip it and put it as 5th, as tall gears for a V8.

I was thinking this was a gear for a 904 mainshaft. These allow swapping of the 2nd gear in a standard 901 box. Good point though; which is it Ken?

Ahh, I see. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I figured it was a 912 2nd, because that's what seems to get asked for the most around here. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

This guy

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread....threadid=274682

has a 4 speed 902 tranny for sale. Not sure if it is a 912 or not.
I could use the intermediate plate and was look to see if a couple of us could buy it, get our parts and sell what we do not need.

That intermediate plate will not fit a 914 trans. The 902 is aluminum, and the intermediate plate bolt pattern is different. It also has smaller bearings. That's a good deal for someone that doesn't need to ship it, not as good if shipping cost is added. That's if the gears are in good condition of course. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

If it's an "H",(as opposed to 2nd being married to the main shaft) even flipping it would make it a very tall 32:19 (.594) gear ratio.

5000 rpm would be 134 mph with Kumho V710. 6000 = 161mph!

80mph would be a very lazy 3000 RPM and probably not very responsive for passing (unluss you have monster torque.)

On the 902, 1st gear is married to the mainshaft. It's just like a 914 trans that's missing 1st gear. They have A mainshafts instead of F.

80 mph at 3000 RPM is exactly why they're nice for the V8s... of course they do have the monster torque. Don't try it on an aircooled engine, the fan would spin too slow.

There's good gears in a 912 four speed. The fourth in that box can become fifth in a 914. It would feel something like a 4.3 gear in a 914 i.e. between stock 914 4th and stock 914 5th, but closer to the 4th.

Good if you have a nice high revving /6, for example.
