Don't know how the fiat did in terms of time, but definitely a very fast car. It was completely stripped, fiberglass skins for doors and fenders, (probaly hood too) no interior, and the owner claimed 102 HP at the rear wheels. By my guess it ahd 3-4 inches of ground clearance.
The fastest car I saw was a blue vette driven by a woman who is apparently a multiple national SCCA autoX champ -Tony |

I live right next to the base but couldn't be there for the autocross. I hope to be there for future events before they start building all the homes.

The blue 'vette was probably Rita Wilsey and she has been the SCCA national champ many times. How did Herb do? Looks like there were some Pro-Solo cars there too and boy are they serious about auto-x!!

They never posted times during the event and it ran so long that everyone bugged out. Kinda hard to tell where it all finished out.
I was having carb issues, but posted an 84.1 second run, which should put me somewhere near top 10 (I believe) out of 140 drivers (I also bested that vette, by a decent chunk.) Best run for the Fiat was an 86.5. The guy has invested his time in the car so far and admits that he now needs some serious seat time to get where he wants to be. Big Props to Tony for posting pics so fast! |

How'd the Fiat do? HELLO ALL - 1st post here. (Yes, I'm the Fiat owner but I had a 914 while I was in high school, along with 2 X1/9s so hopefully....) I don't know all of the times but I do know that the guy in the Orange 914 was faster than me by more than a second on the 80+ second course. Typically the 911s were running about 95 seconds, the Boxters were running about 90 seconds, I ran an 85 somthing but hit a cone that run and the guy in the Orange 914 ran some clean times in the 84s. (But it really wasn't as close as I just made it sound.) It was a really fun day and I met lots of great people, especially the guy who's name I forgot in the Orange 914 that loaned me his air gauge and gave me lots of tips for driving faster. I hope to make it out, run again with you guys and meet the rest of the 914 guys! --> Alex PS Yes, I ran my car on an wheel dyno a few months back and had 102HP at the wheels. I surely need some more beans but it's not allowed in the vintage car class that I run in. |

Alex, welcome to the club! You might get some good natured harassment around here for driving an X-1/9. The story goes that some months ago, the 914club site went down for a couple days and some of the members here decided to go over and take over an X1/9 forum to tease our mid-engine bretheren. Of course some people didn't like the joke, people got upset on both sides, etc. It all ended peacefully however.
I spoke with you briefly at the event yesterday about your car, and I really thought it looked like the ultimate AX machine. If you can you should check out next weekend's autocross in Riverside. Its a much smaller event so you get more laps, probably more driving time and its at night so it isn't 50 billion degrees. Again welcome to the club! -Tony |
