I'm installing my windshield today. What size butyl tape should I get??/ Seems like some people have a problem with their trim when they use too large a size.
Thanks Peter |

I would use black high temp silicon for the "Spektar" setup with billet hold down clamps.
Better yet.. ask Spektar what to use. The silicon might react or something to the "plastic". B |

Hmm.... I have always heard to use the 1/4" tape. Supposedly the 3/8" is too fat and you have problems getting the windshield to sit down into the recess nicely.

I have always used black urethane in a caulking tube, but 3/8" sounds a bit thick to me. A 3/16" to 1/4" bead has always worked.

I cheated and called the body shop. I have seen both used. I have also seen loose windshields with the quarter inch stuff.
Me.. I bought it in a caulking tube of butyl and laid a beed around the windshield as wide as I wanted.. B |

Thanks, I'll use the urethane in a tube. New paint, new glass, new clips and new trim. I just don't want to have to re-do it anytime soon.
Thanks Peter |

Hi,
I went to an auto glass shop to get some butyl tape for my rear window. He gave me enough to do two windows and didn't charge me a thing. It was 3/8 and he told me it was ok to stretch it if I wanted it to be thinner. Nice guy. When I order my windshield it will probly be from him. I tried stretching it like he said and it can be done but ya gotta be careful it don't break. Cheers, Elliot |
