Hello all, I am new to the 914 group having spent my time in the early 911 world. I just love really nice vintage cars, especially well kept, rust-free survivors. Well, as luck would have it, a really nice 1970 914-6 has fallen into my lap. I know very little about the 914 and need some assistance in determining a value for a really nice 914-6. Here is the info that was sent to me:

It is a 1970 914-6. It has 112,000 miles. I can't tell if it is original paint or not. There is no rust that I can see from the pictures. New tires. Koni shocks. It has a front oil cooler that is non-factory. Non-original steering wheel. Otherwise, it seems like a pretty decent car... just a coupla chips, and that's it!

It also has what look to be Fuch 15 X 7 wheels. Here are some pics to view.

OK, so those are the pictures that I have. It is reputed to be a really clean, rust-free car that has lived its life in the south. Having done a lot of research on early 911's and recently gone through the purchase of one, I am fully aware that one should do a thorough PPI before buying. I have seen a couple of these for sale in the mid to high 20's and am wondering if that is what the current pricing is for really nice examples of the 914-6. Thanks for helping a newbie! Interesting use of the trunk floor for the oil cooler shroud. Nice looking car. $20K?

Looks like a decent 914-6. No pics of the motor or hellholes. The wheels look like 16x7 Fuchs? Can't tell about the rear bumper. Get a PPI and if you can get the car for just under $20k, well bought, I would say $22-3 is the very top of the market on this car. I have sold them for $8500 to $27000. The low end being a project car and the top end being a restored concours car.

I am still trying to obtain more information on the car. It is my understanding that it is the original motor to the car. I am working through my mechanic who has found the car for me, so am waiting on him to get more info. I will supply it when I get it. Thanks.

It looks nice. I noticed that the left-most gauge is not original, and it may have a brake bias adjustment, or something on the floor ahead of the hand throttle.
If it checks out: absence of rust, ok motor, real /6 VIN, it may be worth mid to high-teens, but I'm not an expert.
The oil cooler, the way it's done, does'nt add any value, and may subtract, IMHO. Also, maker sure the wheels are real Fuchs. Something may have had to be done to the wheel arches to fit 7 inch wheels.

Looks like later style seats and backpad have been added, non stock "904" style triple gauge (IMG:style_emoticons/default/barf.gif) , goofy rear shocktower brace (rip it out).

No underneath, hellhole, engine pics, rear bumper (ever tried to find the correct rear early bumper?), heat?

High teens if the motor has been upgrade some IMHO, or $15-17 with dead stock motor..

I'd also say high teens. The car just isn't original and minty enough to justify a low to mid twenties price IMO. The rear fenders are noticeably stretched. I'm also wondering why it has a front oil cooler if the engine is stock. Maybe it has a hipo engine? It definitely looks like it could be nice driver.

I used to want a real six badly and now I could care less. Why? Because I want my 914s to be fun drivers rather than concours vehicles. For less than $20K you could buy a non-rusty 914-4 for $4-5K, build up a nice SDS fuel injected 2316 engine for $6K, new paint $4K, new suspension/wheels $3K, etc, etc. You'd have a car for the same money that would spank a real six in every posible way.

I'm with Geoff on the rear "supports". Looks like an attempt at a cure for something that isn't a problem. It's basically doing nothing.

I'd guess you've got a fairly high output engine, or one that runs too hot. As long as it doesn't have serious rust (past, present, or future) or major accident history, you've probably done well for yourself!

The stabilizer bar that is in the rear trunk is an item that is sold by Stable Energies as a performance enhancement.
You will get many many differing opinions from the assembled masses here. It is not bolted or welded in . It unbolts easily and leave no holes or issues with the rear trunk walls or floors.

WHat happened with that silver 3.6 you had. What did it end up going for? I just couldn't bring myself to spend 45k at the time. But man I was really on the fence with that car. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Thanks for all the replies guys. Glenn, thank you for the PPI offer. The car is on its way up here and evidently, there is one other buyer in line who has right of first refusal. I am told that he already has way to many cars, so will probably not buy it. I am told that the fenders have not been modified and the car was not tracked. The PO had a bunch of cars and used a real Brumos 914 for his racing. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumb3d.gif)

I think that I may be able to get the car for $15k to $17k. I don't know, we'll see.

Looks like a clean car. With the addition of the front oil cooler I'd say larger non original motor, or original motor rebuilt to larger displacement. Strange location for a propotioning valve, for a car that wasn't tracked.
