Can anybody point me in the direction of the oil pressure and oil temp sensors to hook up to my bug dash on the 1.7 lump pretty please!

oil pressure port is at the top of the case near/beside the distributor. oil temperature is at the bottom of the case but not the one in the center of the bottom, the one in the "corner" of the bottom. many type IV's may not have the oil temperature sender in the plate so if you don't have a sensor and the wire that will run to the gauge, you need the sender and plate known/referred to as the "taco plate". i saw one on ebay recently go for about $50.

Yeah cheers for that! If its not the one in the center of the bottom, what does that center one do? I'll have a look-see and if its not there, I'll just have to get out, lick my fingers and dip them in the sump to check if it's not too hot...

And I'm allowed to slag off us Brits cos I am one!!!! It's all the damp weather and stout ales, it all makes for wooly thinking if one is not careful, hence some of my rediculous posts on here!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif) (Wet Torrential Weather)
Mind you, we do even worse in the sun! We just can't be arsed lifting a finger once the sun is out... We all just want to go to the pub and veg out! I mean look at Australia! Thats a classic example of what happens to Brits in the hot sun! Made a cracking start round the coastline, but once we did that we just gave up, stoked up a BBQ (IMG:style_emoticons/default/jsharp.gif) and had some cold beer (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) ! PULL YOUR FINGERS OUT AND FINNISH OFF THE MIDDLE, YOU LAZY WORKSHY LUMOXES! And if that wasn't bad enough, we taught them all of the sports that we invented, just so that they could come back and beat us at sports we invented!

Having said that, the damp over here has led to some fantastic feats of Great British thinking... You Americans, spent BILLIONS going to the moon. Ok it was a great achievement, but you called it the space race. It's only a race when someone is in danger of getting there first! The moon was never going to be part of the British Empire, not least because there is nothing to be gained by way of spicey foods or olimpic quality athletes, but also because there's no one to give it back to once we're done with it (like we did the rest of the Empire!). So we turned our attentions to other great feats of lateral thinking. USA, BILLIONS spent going to the moon. The Brits, we took 3 completely alien concepts from completely different parts of the world (The Chicken, all the way from China (clue's is in the name - C-H-I chicken, C-H-I China!), the basket (the origins of which are a small bedowin tribe in what is now modern day Northern Iraq) and the potato, discovered in the new world when Sir Walter Raleigh took a wrong turn looking for India (dozy Brit AGAIN!). We took those three completely alien things and threw them together, and what did we come up with? Chicken in a basket with chips (or fries, as you call them). USA, BILLIONS to get to an orbiting rock, the Brits, £3.99 for chicken in a basket with chips, available from any good fast food place late at night. You tell me who the greater thinkers are! lol! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/givemebeer.gif)

Cheers for the advice guys!

the center one is a "sump drain" and is one to be really (REALLY!!!) careful of. in my opinion, it is rarely removed. it is just underneath an oil pickup in the case. you need to see the parts diagrams to maybe understand the arrangement. the nut that holds the sump drain cover has a torque spec of about 9.4 inch-pounds (yes, INCH-pounds). if it is torqued more than that, you run the risk of breaking off a "boss" (a hole in the case thru which a bolt passes) and ruining the case.

on the other hand, there is an outfit in New England (no, not Old England aka Great Britian (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ) that sells a thermometer that fits in the dipstick tube. i know that the location makes it rather worthless while driving, but it's about $50 (what ever that is in pounds ...) and might be useful in the interim until you get a temp gauge, etc.

We Brits invented everything when you work back far enough... Cricket, football (soccer), rugby (your football minus padding), we specialise in throwing things together and coming up with classic combinations! Take a nice cold beer for example. We took german Bier, French *spits to avert evil* glass, threw them together to make a good pint of Tetleys. Proper drink, that! We invented Indian food too, because the meat is so bad over there that you have to add blow-yer-ass-off spices to cover the taste. If you go to India, the hotter the curry, the worse the meat.

I already have the guage etc installed from my bug engine. Just want to hook it up to the 914 lump. It will look a bit silly with a pressure warning light working and the temp not. Anyway, I'll have a look and if it's not there I'll either sell the guage or buy a sensor.

And by the way, us Brits may be easy to have a go at what with our poor dental hygene, our Royal Family with no power, our lack of any industry whatsoever, and our multi-ethnic society that simply doesn't work, but at least we had the biggest empire the world has ever seen, which always had the sun on it somewhere (thats true - the sun never set in the British Empire), and at least we have the brass balls to fly low level bombing in 30 year old aircraft in the Royal Air Force! Mind you, your boys kick our buts in every excercise involving dogfights, so touche I guess!

Oi! We invented the damned language, we'll decide whats right and whats wrong (IMG:style_emoticons/default/slap.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bootyshake.gif) Even if you are right!

Pics of a taco would be great! I'm about to order some T4 IDF manifolds from over your way from Ebay because they are half the price than over here... Price is $112.05 which is about £59 over here. Not bad when you consider that the manifolds without postege over here are about £80 ($152!!!). So I'm gonna get some other goodies thrown in for good measure while I'm at it, eg airflow meter, electronic ignition (can anyone reccomend a good electronic ignition for a 914???) and anything else I need!

Slits (donning his Nomex suit).....I prefer the Crane Optical setup. While the Petronix/Compufire modules are 1/2 the price, I like the optical trigger.

Now, take the optical trigger unit, about $130 list in US Dollars (and much cheaper thru Jeggs), not that funky Pound Sterling crap and add a Hi-6 multispark ($250), rev limiting module with the Crane PS91 coil($60) and you've got enough spark to light up Frankenstein or Margaret Thatcher.

Now those that are in the MSD camp can light their blowtorches. Bonnets up!

And why did you invent a language that no one can understand?
