A really great series of articles are available through the NYTimes doccumenting, first hand, the salvage process that went on after Dec 7th at Pearl Harbor.

The writter describes some of the impromptu engineering that transpired, and I thought folks here would like to read about some of the unsung efforts that went into recovering nearly all of the damaged vessels.

And we thought working on slightly rusty 30 year old sports cars was messy and challenging...

Thanks Josh.
Glad someone on here remembered.
America had another 9/11 on 12/7/41 but made those responsible pay for it.

Huge difference between Pearl Harbor and 9/11 in my opinion. Having three WWII Pacific Theatre Veterans in my family and one who actually was stationed in Pearl Harbor during the attack. We did defend our interests and ran an effective campaign in that war after a clear coordinated military attack on our Pacific Fleet by the government of Japan. Over 30 Japanese ships and 400 planes were launched in the attack against Pearl Harbor.

We have been at war with terrorists for even longer than our engagement in WWII and I'm not convinced we have made those primarily responsible for 9/11 pay for much at all.

I think its best to keep these events in seperate context.

I don't follow your logic. Read what I wrote again.
Both were sneak attacks on America. One enemy was Japan. We brought them to justice with the A bomb on their own soil.
The other, the 9/11 sand-dingos, Bin Laden and his Mid East plotters. They still haven't paid. We owe them an H bomb but policy keep Saudi out of missile range so we can buy their oil.
This is all I can say. Can't do politics on 914club.
Thanks. Always Remember Pearl Harbor.
End of my part in this thread.

As a Marine I was staioned for a bit at the air station in Iwakuni Japan...

Taking a trip to Hiroshima was an incredible experience, the shadows of humans burned into objects has to be seen first hand to be understood..

I think there was a big difference between pearl harbor and 9/11. To me one was an act of war concentrating on crippling our naval fleet in the pacific, the other was an act of terrorism targeting civilians...

Having spent time in the sandbox right after the first gulf war all I have to say is we should have turned the whole fucking place into glass years ago with the biggest bomb we could cook up.. Do it at noon while they are all facing north!
But thats just my very radical take on it, I don't keep up with the news because I don't have time and its just a bunch of BS politicians anyway. We have fucked around with the mid east too long, this should have been over the week that it started with a sweep and clear of the whole fucking place that would make the history books.. Anyone raising a rifle gets taken out!

Sounds like a plan to me.
Also it's easier when fighting an actual nation than a bunch of gangs running around trying to gain power, ya know. Also in WWII we didn't care as much about just blowing everything up (especially the brits with the night bombing of Germany). Either way, dealing with land-wars in Asia has always been a mistake IMHO (that and trying to outsmart a Cicillian) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
