flairs and rims, what to do? Options

i have a nice 914 with flairs , 916 look. it has 4 lug with a 5 lug adapter that spaces the rims out about 1 inch. could accually go more than 1 inch out though, i am going to put new tailing arms and 911 front struts and hubs, and change the 4 lug to a real 5 lug. of course this will move the wheels back in about one inch. what is the best and most cost efficient way to get the wheels back out to fill the wheel well properly. more spacers or wider wheels? if wider wheels work which ones wil do it?

Spacers will do the trick, you may need to change your lug bolts if they are to

short. If you get your rear hubs/ trailing arms from Eric he can take care of that

for you.

I have seen alot of guys that run larger spacers in the front because the fronts

are narrower and to fill the wheel wells they need to be bumped out too.

Thin spacers just have 5 holes for the lug studs. As they get thicker, they require longer studs in the hub. When they get to about 1" (25mm) they sprout 5 more holes with conical countersinks. These hole slip over stock wheel studs. The other 5 holes in the spacer (or adapter as some call them) have 5 stock length studs that stick outboard and are what the wheels then bolt to.

I think I'm partial to the bolt on spacers, with stock lugs, vs the slip on spacers with extended lugs. You can pick your wheel and tire combo, and then get the appropriate spacer to center it in the wheel well.



These come in many thicknessssssesssssss. On my 914, I had a pair made up custom. One is 1" thick the other is 7/8" thick. This was to get the gap between the tire and the flare the same on both sides, as the flares are not precision parts, even the Porsche factory ones like I used. (I wouldn't do that again, 1/8" doesn't show, especially since you can't see both sides at once.) Anyway, between the 1" spacers and the 7 x 15 Fuchs, and the 195/65 R15 tires, I have a look that I like.

I also have 4-to-5 lug adapters in front, and they're 1" thick. I have original 914/6 parts for the front.... maybe next winter?

(needs ride height adjusted down, as well as rocker panels.... always something!)

that sounds good, my car kinda looks like that too, right now, i'm going to raise my car maybe 1 in. and go with 16 in. rims that i have, but its lower than it should be now, i just measured the spacers that are on it now and they are only 20 mm . but it looks like i could go 1 1/4 on back and 1 1/2 in front. who carrys those bolt on spacers?

that sounds good, my car kinda looks like that too, right now, i'm going to raise my car maybe 1 in. and go with 16 in. rims that i have, but its lower than it should be now, i just measured the spacers that are on it now and they are only 20 mm . but it looks like i could go 1 1/4 on back and 1 1/2 in front. who carrys those bolt on spacers?

I think I have a set in the garage... I picked them up the other day and out of curiosity measured them. I think they were 1.25" Contact me if you are interested. I got them for $50 at a swap meet. I actually need 28mm for my 911...
