I was at Buttonwillow Raceway on Friday, March 16th as a guest of the Viper Club for a charity event. It's kind of a test/tune day for various race teams and local hot shoes before the "Viper Days" event this weekend. I was lucky enough to run in the Advanced open passing group where it's a mix of race cars and pretty good DE drivers.
Although it seems that some of the Viper guys take exception to getting passed by a 2.5L car (several guys would block and brake check me when I set them up to pass), I was usually able to pass them. I also got passed plenty of times by the Archers Bros. team cars! laugh.gif Here is a vid of me trailing a Viper that I eventually passed. It took me 3 laps to catch him, but he was a good sport and we ended up running together quite a bit during the day, taking turns leading and following. The day was mid 80's in temperature and the track was in decent shape, although it got greasy in the afternoon. This was the first time I ran Buttonwillow with the new turn 2 configuration (called "A"). We ran like the race weekend, so it ended up being Config 13"A". The new 2 is a mini reverse Star Mazda. Several of the DE drivers were double apexing the turn, but the pro teams were turning in a making a bee line for a very late Apex. Much faster. Here's a one lap vid: Spec Boxster at Buttonwillow By the end of the day I was flat out in several spots on the track. Lucille ran perfectly. All in all a really fun time! Bill P. |

Nice bit of driving. Catching Vipers? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
Looks like you'll be ready when the "Beast" is finished. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |

Keep posting Bill, I'm living vicerally through you. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
I've pretty much decided to do a Boxster spec car. Just a matter of figuring out what to do with my car and how to make it happen. Maybe by next year I'll get it done. |
