Performance Products (lowest price)
Auto Atlanta
Pelican
914 Appearance and Performance on eBay.

Seems there are many vendors, with varying prices.

Any experience with this particular part?
Is there a difference in quality?
Which one would you buy?

Any and all comments relevant to the LE Airdam are welcome.
But please, no vendor bashing in general (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Thanks

I have heard that Appearance and Performance is made from a mold taken off a New Old Stock spoiler and is as absolutely accurate as possible. James and Heidi are members here and good folks as well. With Pelican you may be buying an Appearance and Performance spoiler as they are a retailer not a manufacturer. Automobile Atlanta has been doing the 914 thing since.... well, the 914 was nearly a new car. I'd bet George has an accurate copy as well.
It's a wash. But with Appearance and Performance you are buying it direct from the manufacturer.

James is a great guy. I buy from him exclusively for this sort of thing. Appearance and Performance rocks! I have their LE spoiler and it's a great piece.

I just met James at the Parts Obsolete swap meet last weekend. Seemed like a straight up guy who is dedicated to Porsches. In describing his parts and his process he seemed pretty conscientious about making things right. I'd absolutely buy parts from him.

Nope. James and Heidi at Appearance and Performance are still the best source. So there is your update. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Wow, you were first to answer the original poster and first to reply to me. Did you stay on here for two years straight? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Seriously AA says that they have a new one "from there precise molds". What does everybody think?

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) if James sells a piece I want, it doesn't matter who else makes it or what the prices are... james' stuff is that damn good.

James produces many products but what sets James apart from other vendors is pride of workmanship. Many vendors produce "widgets" which can be various grades of nice, but James produces each piece as though he was going to put them on his car. Over the years I have bought a variety of products from him, but I still marvel at the Ghetty Dash that he covered in leather for me.

I have had the LE Repro from Appearance and Performance, flat out you cannot beat it period.. I have had Pelicans (and I like Pelican Parts alot) and I returned it same day prior to even mounting. I like Auto Atlanta and more so George but have had issues with the general sales pitch, though most times I have been pleased, ... but have felt on a couple items that I was sold a pitch more than a quality on some repros and actually as a fact this had led me to never buy repro unless there is no better alternative and George personally has told straight not to bother on some things I wanted to do... and Money has nothing to do with it... I hate buying an expectaion.. James is the way to go, lots of skill and personal quality care, he is a quality Human Being as well.. Though George (AA) may surprise you and He does alot of body parts that look damn good and I have never had his LE Spoiler...

My 76 came with an LE spoiler and it had a little damage to it. So not to be without one while I fixed it, as I knew that might take me a very long time I bought one from James and Heidi at Appearance and Performance. It was a perfect fit. I just sanded it with 180 sand paper and painted it with satin black paint and it looks great.

Not to say that the tooling from a brand new LE unit figuring in for some shrinkage for a new part puts AA in a place where they cannot make a primo part. I just did not get my unit from them.

I contacted James and Hiedi last night and they do seem like nice people. Everyone's response on here is also overwhelmingly positive. I will probably order in the next day or so.

Bob, I still don't know why I sold that car. I had to get another so I located a nice 74. Thanks for your input, I am sure you know a few things about fit and finish of plastic and fiberglass. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Yes, James for the LE valence... I have one and love it! I stopped in at Performance Products a few years back while in LA and asked to see their fiberglass front valence.... total crap. Doesn't hold a torch to James' product - you are in good hands.
