If it matches the body color, it should look fine.

Are your rockers/targa/roll bar also white?

Nope, keeping them black.

PO painted the whole car white, I am in the process in painting back to the original. The first thing I painted was the engine lid back to black, to me it looks better.

Do what YOU like best...nobody else has to drive it...

As for me, well, I'm painting my car white and I like the GT engine grill in black, with black sails and white rockers

I know this dude who like ceramic chromes them to match all your other chrome trim pieces as well as your rims if alloys or chrome. Thats the real option my brother. Paint the letters the color of your car with this option. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif)

Some things just look best in black. Even satin or flat black. Such as grills.

Body color is ok as long as it's not too much monochrome overall. Depends on the rest of the car.

Chrome was cool in the past. Today it's cool on gangsta Escalades with spinners. Personally, I don't like bling on a 914.

Just a couple pennies worth of opinions.

This is a taste thing. Only you can answer it for yourself.
