Alpine a 110 won Monte Carlo and beat the 914GT (IMG:style_emoticons/default/pray.gif) ...

Watch this beast in action

Alpine are considered as the "french Porsche" because they have also the engine at the rear end.
THey were very light cars because they were built with fiberglass.

The narrow body and six lamps is a A310 4 cylinder. The one with 4 lamps is a V6
And the "tuned" one is a V6 PACK GT
(IMG:http://faimg1.forum-auto.com/mesimages/73561/AUT37060.JPG)

After the A310 they built the A610 that was the very last Alpine... and unfortunatelly the last french sport car (not speaking of the Venturi, but this is another story)

Now there is another example of taking something really good and turning it to merde...

Car manufacturers do it all the time.

Ford with their 1957 T-bird to a bloated turd.....

Datsun 240Z to the later fat luxemobiles

and so on....

The front of the A610 reminds me of my 944Turbo.

i watched that race as a kid. the alpine 110 was my favorite car back then ...

i remember watching it on TV on a leg somewhere in the alps, drifting uphill in the snow. with some extra huge ralley lights on the hood ...

what a cool car!

ALPINE, an aptly named car. So European looking. Hang a half-dozen driving/fog/rally lights on the nose and it looks even cooler!
First time I saw one outside an issue of R&T was down in Gaudalajara Mexico in 1972. looked even neater in person than in print. Those early rally cars, swb 911s, 914/6GTs, Alpine A110s, Alfa GTVs, Minis, 2 stroke Saabs looked so incredibly cool to me sliding around Alpine passes, French cols and Austrian hairpins, their front ends carrying enough candlepower to illuminate a soccer game at night.

Thanks for the 110 linky, Andy, neat stuff. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)

What you cant see on picture is the dimensions of the car.

I once sat in one of them, I barely got in !!! ... The car is 3,7 Ft high ! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Weights 1400 Lbs and got up to 140 HP (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

The 110 from that angle looks like a Karmann-Ghia with 3-lug wheels
