Alright, I figured that I could start my own little thread documenting my progress on my newest toy. I am hoping to get this together with pics and descriptions of what is going on. Let's start with the before (beginning).
I have a friend that had been trying to sell this Porsche 914 for a while, I was helping him to find a buyer, but we weren't having much luck. He had applied for a job with Homeland Security (Border Patrol) and didn't really want to take it with him ( He had begun a hobby of building custom choppers). Well, at the end of October he got the call that he was hired and that he had to move in a week!!! So I decided to take him out for a going away party, I got to the local watering hole first. He walks in, sits down, I buy him a drink and we start talking. He then out of nowhere says, " So do you want that Porsche??" I said, " Of course I do, but what's the price sticker on it??" He said, " I gotta get rid of it now, so $100 and it's yours!" Needless to say, I damn near broke my finger reaching into my pocket for the money!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) The rest is History. Now for the pictures.. These first ones are of the vehicle as it was when I bought it. It really hadn't been driven in about 2 years cuz he started to repair the rust. (In case you didn't notice, I live in Wisconsin (Green Bay)) ![]() ![]() |

Ok, So now I own the Porsche, and I need to get some welding done on it, to get it on the road so that I can drive it home. So I was just going to weld up support under the passenger side, where you can see the cancer in the above pics. So I go over to my buddy's house to weld on it. ( He and his wife had already left for Arizona) So I am about 2 welds and 20 minutes away from actually hearing the engine run, and driving it home, when a F#$%$^G fuel line catches fire, and me without an extinguisher.
Did I mention that they had their regular cars parked right tight to the garage door, and 2 $60,000.00 Custom Harley's in the garage with me. ( And no, they didn't leave the keys to their cars either!!!) Needless to say, this was the worst day of my life!! The positives: I called 911, I got the Harleys out, I kept the flames under control with a garden hose, I didn't burn anything in the garage (besides my car), I didn't blow up, and I didn't get a single burn! The head of the fire team was so impressed, that after he recapped what happened, he said, " Do you want an application??" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif) So here are the pics after the fire: ![]() ![]() ![]() The Battery ![]() Engine Compartment ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Ok, So now I know that I'm not going to be driving it home, so I break down and get a trailer and tow it!
![]() ![]() The only time I got to actually sit in the car!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) ![]() |

OK, you're on your way but don't tow it backwards again. the rear window may pop out and then the front window is at risk. Done it. Just glad the front window was crappy anyway and that there was no one behind me.

Ok, now I am kinda done with the carnage. Now it is to the good things, and the actual progress on the vehicle!!
First of all, I would like to thank everyone on this forum!! I am so glad that I did my search on Google and found you all!! I have received so much help and advice from many of you, and I look forward to receiving more as I continue my journey! Here we go, replacement parts and other stuff that I got from my friendly neighborhood forum members ECU and wiring harness from VESNYDER ![]() Also received some other FI stuff from Slackin at Work!! Thanks Guys!! Before console ![]() Center Console from Cheapsnake ( Fellow Wisconsinite) didn't really need it, but hell, it looks good don't it?? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's some shots of the rust that I have to repair, besides the Hell Hole Rocker below Pass. Door ![]() ![]() ![]() Back Wall Behind Pass. Seat ![]() Here is the exhaust. Heat Exchanger on only one side??? Need different ones!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's just some shots of the side I'm working on, without the soot (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ![]() ![]() ![]() Well, I hope you've enjoyed this so far?? Other stuff I've ordered or bought thus far: New clutch and accelerator cables Air Filter Blue Coil Dizzy Cap Rotor Plugs Wires Oil Filter GT Flares Plus of course, my parts car, which has everything in it besides the engine and tranny, which I will be taking some stuff off of, but will be parting most of it out (or making it into a racer since it is actually more solid than my car, but no title!! Bought it when I was under the impression that mine was a 2.0, but you guys informed me that I was misinformed and mine is a 1.8) Either way, I will have some parts for you guys, as it has perfect marker lenses, Leather Steering Wheel, seats, etc. etc. etc... Please feel free to give advice, 2 cents worth, or just PM me to say hey!!! Ron |

Although I did have a police officer screaming at me to get out of the garage, and that it wasn't worth my life. That was kinda funny (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) |

I think my biggest problem is that I have ADD (as diagnosed by my wife) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I am basically ready to drop the engine out. Everything disconnected, just waiting to get someone to come over and help me out with it. Plus I am working on the body as well. I'm as bad as my bosses at work, I have myself going ten different directions at the same time!! Time for Clones (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif)

put typical shipping pallet under engine and trans - get car on two hydraulic jacks -remove rear wheels - and lower car - a little on each side - to where engine and trans is on pallet - and then remove the two engine bolts and two transaxle bolts -then lift car up and slide pallet out from under car : ) chock both front tires front and back. don't forget ground strap to trans - jim

I wonder if Pat might be interested. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sheeplove.gif) |
