looks like Memminger copied some of the old porsche (karman) tooling and are going to reproduce steel body parts for the 914 ...
they're known in germany for their work on old beetle convertibles ...

so far, they only have new front hoods, but there's more to come, supposedly.

Cool, but Yikes! 1.299€ ($2,050) plus shipping as an introductory price...

Maybe I'll start shipping 914 parts to Europe (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

i'm guessing it's a limited run and certainly a limited market.

just to recover the tooling costs he'll probably have to sell quite a few at that price ...

At those prices, I'm sure half the Forum members will sign up for a complete tub when those are fabrikated. Then we will all bolt on the good hardware from our old rusty heaps and have new/old/new 914s (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Are they adding any rust or do we need to do that ourselves?

uhh........Why start with hoods if you are gonna recreate tooling? I can think of a couple of other parts our cars need before hoods.

probably me just being ignorant. Maybe in Europe the first part to rust away is the hood instead of the longs. Maybe it is a ploy to get us to trade our rust free California tubs for hoods (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Anyways, cool that someone is taking the time and money to recreate parts for these cars....maybe they are the next 356.

I don't think they made a new tool. That's far too expensive.
You need at least two or four tools to cut and punch the thing.
My opinion they got them made at request by Karmann.
Memminger builts brand new beetle convertibles.
These were already manufactured by Karmann. I suppose he has very good relationship with the factory.
Georg Memminger is also a 914 fan. He owns a 914 GT and he obviously needed a new hood (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
