Sounds like you just bought the inserts. You need the kit with the tools also. Check timesert's site.

Take it to a local machineist. It cost me $20 (including the cert) to have my spark plug fixed.
Way better then spending $130 plus shipping for the tool, for a one off job. Zach |

I don't have the spark plug sized kit. I have the 8mm kit. But if I ever needed an insert for a plug, I'd buy it. That way the next time it happens I would have the tools and the inserts and fix it right away and be back on the road without pulling a head. Something to think about.

Merely being realistic. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I'm still in the process of restoring my 4th 914 and driving my 6th. 91 today on the way home with the top off. Comfy at 70mph...
These days when I need a tool, I buy it. Much better than the old days when I couldn't afford to fix something with a decent tool. |

Installing Time Serts in 914 heads while they're installed on the engine is a no-no. Because of the design of both the tap and the installation tool, you're gonna foul the valves and/or seats, especially on the 1.7/1.8/2.0(bus) heads. Not good, as we say.
Along with the tap, you'll need the installer and the seat cutter. The Cap'n |
