I bought a 914-6 in Germany recently - and this week it was time to bring it to his new home => my garage (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
My dad was so kind to come with me, we took my daily driver for the 1st direction and drove back home with both cars. This meant to stand up at 2:45am and drive 4hrs in one direction. In Germany we had to organize a set of special short-time license plates, so in the photos the car still has a German license plate. This will be changed within the next couple of days, when the six get street legal in Austria.

Here's a shot in Germany, where we picked up the six. It's my dad (white hair) talking to Mr. Knüpfing, who did some work on the engine, tranny and breaks.

The car was a sleeper. It was stored away for 15 years and therefore it had some tech issues. The engine got new main bearings, tensioneers and completely resealed. The tranny got resealed. All 4 break disks are brand new, as well as the master break cylinder and the break lines. The calipers are completely rebuilt - they're better than new.
Of course, the car still needs a lot of TLC, but it's a high grade original car with phantastic substance.

Here're some shots from my 1st run through the mountains in my area:

Now to the car:
It's a real 1971 914-6 with matching numbers - only the tranny isn't the one from delivery, but there's a document that shows that it got a warrenty replacement tranny in 1973 - and this number still matches.
The bad one is, that the car originally was signal orange (that's my favorite colour), but the 2nd owner repainted it red - as you can see.
From new, the car only had 3 owners (before me) - and currently there are 142.698 km on the clock (that's about 88,700 miles). The original tool kit is still with the car, as well as the maintainance record and the owner's manual.
Originally it was delivered with steel wheels, but the 2nd owner replaced them with 5.5Jx14 Fuchs with 185 HR 14 (of course I put brand new tyres on it).

Currently I don't have much more photos, here's another shot from my 1st tour ...

Looks like it has some real parts though... that's cool enough for me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Sweet score. Sounds like the car has a lot of everything you could ever want in a real 6. I vote for turning it back to its original colour (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

there's only one thing that dampens my happyness a little ...

as some of you might know, I lost my job recently
if I don't find another job within the next 2 months, it could happen that I need to sell the car
there's still my green 1.8 - but this car didn't sell yet
so I'm a guy without work but with 2 historic Porsches in the garage (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

just to clarify - I bought the six before I got fired
I'm really not so stupid to spend that much money after loosing my job ...

anyhow, we'll see what time brings ...

me too (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

but then I want to get a brilliant job - and that's pretty expensive
so it will take some time, if I don't win the lottery jackpot (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Congratulations on the beautiful car. I hope everything works out for you on the job situation. I would hate to see that car go to someone else.

I vote for signal orange too.

Thats a terrific car Wolfgang. It must have been a lot of fun driving your car back to Austria. We all give you positive thoughts that you will find a new job very quickly.

I remember back in late 70's; We were living in an apartment and I drove a VW Beetle and Janie drove a Karmann Ghia. We rented a garage nearby where we kept our 1970 911S, 1973 914 2.0 and a 1970 914-6. We desperatly wanted to build our first home. We sold the 911 to purchase 3 acres of land. We sold the 914-4 to help fund the construction of the house. But I refused to sell the 914-6. We really, really needed the money but somehow we made it happen. I went on to keep that car for 28 years and only sold it after I purchased the M471 GT a year and a half ago.

I know that purchasing your 914-6 is a dream come true. So lets all keep our thoughts positive and send Wolfgang good Karma.

Congratulations for finding what sounds and looks like a very special car.

Exquisite car Wolfgang...Isn't there something else that is special about this car?

Best wishes to you in finding a job...I hope it won't take too long. Do you receive any government income during unemployment?

Wolfgang, I am so happy for you.

I believe the missing special your forgot to mention is the automatic "Sport-o-Matic Transmission", rare, rare, factory 914-6. Tell us more.

Tom
BTW: You are going through a difficult time in your career & we know you will overcome the crisis. We all go through a tough time in our career life so don't give up, have faith it will work out. Your in my prayers!!!

indeed, I forgot to tell you the best ... it's one of 16 factory built 914-6 Sportomatics
to be exact, it's the last built
unfortunately there's still a problem with the clutch actuation ... my guess would be the problem is somewhere at the micro switch
shifting with the engine off is easy
shifting with running engine is difficult, sometimes not possible

I will update my VIN info soon
