I want to remove the front strut clamps and washers to have them replated, but the Haynes manual says the positions of the clamps shouldn't be altered or the steering geometry will be changed (pg. 101, 3.6). Will there be problems in removing these things? Any suggestions on removing them and keeping the steering from changing??

Strut clamps??? huh?
If you mean the top piece that bolts into the fender...the plates and position with a sharpy..take them off and send them out.

Yes, just mark the position on the fender.
You will probably want to remove the stru top bearing housing and have that plated as well.
