So, payments are on the way for both my car and engine stuff. In the end I got close to what I was asking.

This will put me about halfway to what I want for a down payment on a 2000-2002 Boxster/S, OR 1/3rd to a great condition 928, OR 1/3rd to a great condition 944 S2/951. Not quite sure which to get yet... But I'm sure as I save up more I'll sway closer to the Boxster...

At least with the 2002 boxster I can swap in a 3.6 from a 996...

The best bang for your buck right now are 996's. I'm moving so I'm sellling mine and it's amazing just how low they are selling for. Look around a little and you can get some very good deals on early 996's that are still very nice cars.

i think the last year of the 993 was 1998 and the first yr of the 997 was about 2005 so in between were the 996's.

In the US 996's are generally from '99-04. (996's were in Europe in '98)

I'll pass on the 996... Too heavy, too much technology crammed in there. I'd LOVE to get a 993 though (if I go the flagship route).

Congrats on selling the car there too, Brandon.....

993/944/928 would be my choices tho the Boxter is starting to make its name known. It seems a little to much 'built for the masses" for my taste.

A base '99 996 has it's curb weight listed at 2929#'s and a 993 at 3064#'s. The 996 is longer by around 6 inches, but the early 996's are just as light as a 993. I've loved having great fuel milage and GREAT air-conditioning.

I would have to agree with you. The 993 is one of the best modern 911s made. From the collectable view it is the most desired body style since the 80's other than the 964 RSA. They are also the last generation of air cooled. However, good luck with getting one for a reasonable price. They seem to hold value well.

I had thought about going the 911 (996 ) route, but when I started looking around I found a very good sorted out 944 turbo (87), for 5k. Parts are relitively inexpensive, and you can still turn a wrench on them. The water cooled part was a little wierd at first, but they can run dependably (as long as your not trying to crank out 400+hp) and I've seen highway milage in the low 30's doing 85 mph. But If I had more cash I would have done the 993.

I dunno, I see this and I see an LS2/LS7 drivetrain (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Pedals could be relocated easily and so forth and that engine could set back at least another 8"-10" as well.

Set a V8 LS engine back, run the Vette trans with all the weight in between the front and rear wheels and have a really nimble, easily 50/50 if not a better chance of slightly biased rear weight, low mass moment of inertia, so forth. As you can probably tell I heavily considered one of those v. the 914 when I did my V8 conversion.

There's a guy running around on the West Coast that runs a 944/LSx track car. If I remember correctly, he won his class at a Willow Springs enduro. I think he's running a Vette drivetrain. His car is somewhere on The WEB; just can't seem to find it.
