I just stumbled on info for this event next March 26th through 28th! I love this kind of an event. It's free, only open to '75 or older cars but cars that look like they are older are an exception (you '76 guys).

It is called the Targa California and it will be held on the Central Coast...

http://www.targacalifornia.com/1.html

Let's populate it with 914's!!!

I can see it now!

Cool! My dad was talking about doing the Iron Bottom Tour with his '77 Fiat 124 Spyder, but wasn't sure they'd let him in. Maybe I can get him to get it running before then and we'll duo up there! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Sounds like a plan! I am in. I will have to take the 911 b/c I am now coming to terms with the real time line as to when the teener will be done. I could make the drive over to pacifica and we could head down from there or over in Moraga either way. I have a friend that lives in Pacifica that would probably like to join in too.

You know...I thought that exact same thing when I read his post.
Great minds think alike....
I was crafting a response...it would have been funnier than yours....

What color do you paint your shit? Is painted shit EPA approved to flush or bury?

This event is replacing the Iron Bottom event and it is the first year in 2009. So, unless someone knows the old Iron Bottom Tour we can only guess as to the routes.
There are some great roads out there though. I used to do a Wildflower Century Bicycle ride in that area. If they used the same roads it would be more like a roller coaster ride than anything else.... Only figure a 100 miles a day or so! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I went on the last three No Frills Iron Bottom Motoring Tours in my '71 240Z (before I had a 914). I don't know if the Targa will start at the Rose Bowl at 7:00 AM like the Iron Bottom, but you can always find them at the Black Oak every evening. There is a couple who sets up a full bar out of the back of their Ford Country Squire station wagon each evening. They serve up one heck of a margureta. The roads are great, the people are great - a real variety of everything from high buck collector cars to $300 Fiats. Even Martin Swig who runs the California Mille for his rich friends joined the Iron Bottom because it was so much fun.

I plan on joining the Targa this year.
