OK,
I am cheap. I am tired of looking at wheels that looking great on our cars, but cost twice what they should due to the infamous Porsche lug pattern. Does anybody here have a source for reasonable priced wheels? i.e. wholesale? Or, do I have to convert my car to a lug pattern that has wheels that are more reasonably priced? Mueller, I am sur you have some ideas.... Brad, care to enlighten the list on how much these precious gems are marked up? I would expect 100% at a bear minimum... By the way, I am lookin for some 3.6 Turbo look RH wheels in 7.5 and 9.5 x 18 with a decent set of take off tires.... and yes I have flares and a V8 to go with them.. I will not spend $3000, or even $1800. I think these wheels with such described tires should run about $1200.... And, these are not from what I would call a "highend" wheel manufacturer... I am sure there are some of you who would say that if I have an issue with spending $1800 on wheels and tires, I have no business building the car I am working on... If that is your thought, your missing my point.... I have been looking for used ones for a year, and when I find them, they are already sold... Thoughts and comments are wanted and welcome, just keep the flames at home... Thom |

Remember your Econ classes? Supply and demand, my friend. Who uses 5x130mm wheels? Just a few Porsches, that's who. And maybe a few old Buses as well. I think that's it.
If the cars had 4x100mm bolt pattern like 80% of all Hondas and most Mazdas and watercooled VWs and so on and so forth, wheels would be cheap. But they don't, so they aren't. Going to 4x100mm isn't overly cheap, I think it wound up being $400 to pay someone else to do the work? And you'll be doing almost half of that over again every time you need new front brake rotors... I know, it's kinda annoying and kinda unfair... --DD |

Give me part numbers and I'll tell you what "cost" is on them.
The problem is: if you found a popular wheel that people like to use... the value will go up. Supply/demand. They only made so many 993 wheels.. the ones everyone take off and dont use are worthless. Kinda like the 16x6 that WE like to use on the 914's. Theses are 911 throw away wheels when 911 owners move the rears to the front and buy 8's for the rear. They end up collecting in peoples garages and blown out at swap meets for 200$ with decent tires. Its very rare that you find anything from a 911 that is "throw away" and can be had for relatively low cost. Get me some part numbers.. B |

Brad,
I know the wheels in the photo are probably not the RH wheels as described in my original post... but, they are similar... Likewise, I really don't think that having the"real" Carrera cup wheels are that important to me either... LOL But, they need to be straight, true and clean- I think you get my point... Thom |

Brad,
Man you post quick! Are the wheels in the photo the wheels you are showing serial #'s on? I would be interested in seeing the difference between list and cost - Thanks - Thom |

Yes. Those wheels exactly. They are pricey because they only offered them for one year on the last regular 911 looking Turbo body before they went to the 993 turbo body (from what I can tell.)

Hi.. .umm...
I'm going in the morning to a guys house I know to pick up an *engine*.. ..I'll talk about that tomorrow. BUT he has a set of 17" (x7&8's I think) Cup wheels he said he needed to get rid of. And I think the price is right (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) seriously... .. He also says he has a set of 3 piece A.R.E. wheels, 16"x6"&7's...I think. Maybe someone is interested? I'll get pictures and details... Bob O p.s. to give you the picture he upgraded his 77' 911 brakes/suspension (front and rear) and "lost" all of the old stuff. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) He said he'd try and remember where it went and he'd give it to me...but it seems like those parts is gone. .. |

for me, doing the conversion to another bolt pattern only cost's me my time (@ $5 an hour, LOL) and parts....
so far my total is less than $50 bucks, but it's a painful learning experiance which I wouldn't want to go thru again...if I ever make the billet front hubs, the story would be different....... as posted in another post, there are some issues that need to be addressed such as the rear rotor being on the sketchy side due to the ID of the center hole....the "correct" way to solve this is custom rotors using aluminum hats...not a big deal, but it's more of my time figuring it out and of course an additional cost I'd rather not deal with..... if I was to do it again, I'd keep the 4x130 or just take the plunge and do a 5x130 conversion and use rims from another P-car.... the flat dish 16x6 and 16x8 rims from 944's, 968's and 964's are decently light and dirt cheap, I sold my chromed 964 rims with tires for $300 !!!!! my new rims only cost 90 bucks a piece and are nice and light, but the other hidden costs are getting to be bothersome......... I'd stay with real Porsche rims, some of the aftermarket Cup wheels have been known to crack and they weigh way too much !!! |

what would be sweet is getting adapter and spacers made that fit 5x(morecommon) onto 5x130s.
I'd love a set of BMW wheels on my 914, minus the silly logo. Fiid. |

I snagged these on ebay for 800 bucks with decent tires. They are factory wheels 17x7, 17x9 and are in great shape. My car will be silver like the example you show. Good luck, nice wheels can be had reasonable just keep looking. I was looking for 993 cup wheels when I found these and I think I like these better?

Thom,
it can be done. 18's will cost ya more, but 17's should be able to be had for a price if you are vigilant. I got a set of Boxster S 17's for $750 delivered. They were very nice. |

Sean,
I am looking for wheels that have a "deep dish" look in the rear... Do you have picks of your S17's? And does your source have other options? Something like this would work as well, as long as I don't have to spend $1800... Let's see if I can get this photo to load.... Attached image(s)
