April 17th, 18th & 19th

UPDATE

There was just too little interest in the coastal tour, so Glenn, Sylvie and I are headed up to Yosemite for the weekend. We're staying at the Best Western Hotel in Oakhurst, CA which is about 40 min south of the southern end of the park. We've stayed in Oakhurst before and it's a nice drive.

Still planning on taking the 914s at this point if there's interest in a tour of sorts. The roads are all fantastic and of course the park is amazing in the spring. The waterfalls are going full blast and there's snow on the mountain peaks.

Speak up now, or this tour is going on hold. We'll be in Yosemite either way and it would be great to have some of our 914 friends along for the fun.

Cheers,

Might be hard to swing a 2 day tour. Some of us actually work for a living! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I'm doing the "Drive that shall not be named" April 4 - 7 so it would be hard to ask the wife for another two days. I think I could swing one day though.

Some of us take the weekends off too! I think if we do two day tour, it'll still be local enough to where people could tear back south to go home on day 1.

I would be interested in a one day drive. Garberville is pretty far, prolly 2.5 hours from Santa Rosa. How about Skaggs again? Like WCR. That was undoubtably the coolest things I've ever done outside of autocrossing.

I'm soooo sick of Skaggs, so you're on your own if you want to go that route. We've had two or three runs go over that road over the years and I run it semi frequently on my way out to the coast.

I'm still down for an over nighter, but I'll try to keep the destination semi-close so people can drive home that afternoon if they like. We could also have a turn off spot for those that don't want to go further north (like Skaggs).

I'll come up with a few route proposals after dinner.

Open as long as it's north of the gate and lends itself to both one day and two day excursions. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Well, I would suggest:

Oysters at Hog Island http://www.hogislandoysters.com/

Lucas Valley Road

Nicasio Road

And of course hwy 1 all the way! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

Oh yeah, I head out to Hog Island Oyster Co in Marshall at least two times a year. We bring a cooler and take a couple dozen home for BBQ or raw enjoyment. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) You have good taste!

Those are all great roads, especially if we start in Marin. Let me think about that and I'll try to tie it in. The only problem with Hog Island Oyster Co is that we'll hit it really early in the tour. My vote would be for us to head further north and stop for lunch in Valley Ford at Rocker Oysterfeller's - http://www.rockeroysterfellers.com/ This is one of Tom Wait's hangouts, and they have a more diverse menu for those that aren't in the mood for oysters. They carry Hog Island Oysters though, so it should make everyone happy.

Going to start fiddling with the route here shortly. Got a belly full of pizza and Merlot and am just finishing up a few other things.

Route 1 Proposal -

Stage 1 Start in Marin to Lunch in Valley Ford

We've met here before. It's a parking lot of 101 and Lucas Valley Road. This time we'll take the twisty Lucas Valley Road past Skywalker Ranch and up to Nicasio. Then it's out to Point Reyes Station and up Hwy 1 to Valley Ford for lunch at Oyster Rockerfellers.

Stage 1 Map

Those that want to leave to go home can. Just head back to Petaluma and then to 101.

Stage 2 Valley Ford to Hwy 1 at Skaggs Springs Road

After an early lunch we will continue north on Hwy 1 through Bodega Bay, Jenner and then through Salt Point until we come to the Hwy 1 / Skaggs Spring Road intersection. This would be a good tear off point for those that want an extended tour, but don't want to to go for an over night run. Buuuh bye! Head east on Skaggs Spring Road to Warm Springs Road and then to Hwy 101 at Healdsburg.

Stage 2 Map

Stage 3 Skaggs Spring to Point Arena CA

This will be our final destination for the night. There's a great hotel in Point Area at the Point Arena Marina. It's the Wharf Master Inn. Sylvie and I stayed there last summer and really found the place to be great. Nice rooms, great location, etc. The rates vary from 105 to 195. I'll call tomorrow to see what they can do for us. There are a few restaurants right there as well. http://www.wharfmasters.com (Hotel's Site)

Stage 3 Map

That's the end of Day 1. Day 2 post coming next.
