Never mind, they fixed themselves... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Excellent work! Did you run the motor, or is that just getting prepped to go into the car? Zach |

nice! from what shows it looks rust free. did you take it down all the way for repaint? we're spoiled in the west, southwest states here, but being from the midwest i can appreciate it.

You used the wrong outer motor mounts!
And ditch those KYB shocks while you're at it ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) Andy |

We ended up cutting an inch off that mount bar. Those were the motor mounts that were on the car when we got it. The 2.0 motor of course didn't come in 1969.
Erik, put up pics of the inside of the car too... Take more pics please. |

missing my NY 914 in VA ![]() ![]() ![]() Group: Members Posts: 1,349 Joined: 26-November 07 From: Oakton VA Member No.: 8,376 Region Association: MidAtlantic Region |
The problem with doing the cutting of the mount bar like that is that you now have 4 flexible engine mounts instead of the originally designed 2.
Is it an issue, maybe, as your engine will move more than it would normally. I've seen this done before, where the old motor mounts were retained instead of replacing the end mounts with solid and it didn't seem to cause trouble, but I would think it would cause the transmission additional structural stress and the tranny mounts as well. Good luck, and Thanks for sharing the progress, it is looking great!!! |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) Like said above, you now have the engine mount bar floating freely inside 4 rubber mounts. It is supposed to be mounted solid on the outside. Very nice! I'd also agree about the motor mounts. If you went to the trouble of putting in a side shifter, you may as well get all the benefits!
You may also find that the WEVO transmission mounts will further help the shifting by containing the movement at the rear of the transmission. |

Heck, I really like the orange car, and I like the orange oil filter. Shit great pumpkin, Fram makes great oil filters. I'd use one on my tail wagger or my boxster if they made one to fit.
The other thing is, I think it looks great. By the way my 914 has one solid mount in the front, kinda like the original 914-6 and the transaxle mounts at the rear are solid too, and when I did it 24 years ago some idiot said that the stress would cause the cast ears on the tailhousing to break off. Now today all of the race 914s have solid mounts. Take any comments with a grain of salt. PS I really like your seats. My first 914 had wheels like yours. I like them just as much today as I did in 1974. |

You gotta lower the rear or raise the front. I think with the front that low you may find you need a bump steer kit.
Ditto on losing the KYB's. |
