Acteone, as stated, reduces surface tension making for a more gaseous/vaporized charge. The problem is that when a fuel charge is more vaporized and less atomized the charge is more explosive and less "a controlled burn". A higher octane is a longer controlled burn. Lower octane is a quicker burn. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/chair.gif) Most things that seems too good to be true... usually are. Now if you add a high end solvent that prolongs the burning of the fuel, such as Tolulene or Zylene, you will realize an instant boost in octane rating.
