i'm getting confused here. more than normal, too.
i "thought" i found TDC cyl 1. i got under the car, looked up at the flywheel through the little hole under the tranny, and rotated an elevated wheel until i saw a scribed mark (a "notch") appear. this is the only mark on the flywheel. then, i looked down at the impeller through the hole in the fan housing. in the "V" notch, i saw a similar mark ("notch") scribed on the impeller. so i thought i found TDC #1. i saw no painted marks or other scribes on the impeller/flywheel; i plan on using the pelican template to make new timing markings. (i wonder how HPH tuned my car last time?) now, i'm reading through the pelican article on valve adjustment, and it says that at TDC, the notch on the flywheel should be at the opening AT THE TOP of the transmission. which would put my only markings a curious 180 degress off. which would put me in a state of total confusion, thinking it would be just as easy to assemble an army of robotic monkeys to colonize the moon. please help. n p.s. rotor position isn't going to be a clue here; i just "re-indexed" it to my newly found TDC (another post...) |

I will also say that the robotic monkey moon colony idea is one of the best ideas I've ever heard. At least we still have our witts. Have you considered popping the valve cover, and checking for TDC on #1? M |
