Let me flame it up a bit... 911 guys "blow" in general. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ar15.gif)
Haven't figured it out yet but... yup, they do. I've owned 4 of them. Still own one and probably always will. I love them. Wish I could find a group of guys like 914 owners but for some reason, for the most part, their time is spent one up'n each other. I think the car is too much of a status symbol so you get a different group of owners. One of my favorite metaphors involves the whole "that's not a Porsche it's a VW" thing you hear from some of the "other" Porsche owners out there. Porsche designed the VW. The first Porsches were all VW parts. Hitler commissioned Porsche to win races and he gave them anything they wanted from the parts bin at the countries largest auto manufacturer... If Porsche 001 was made from VW parts then I would say only a "true" Porsche would have it's roots tied so closely with VW. This is what I think a lot of the 911 crowd is missing... a humble understanding of their beginings. The Beetle crowd knows how close a Type 1 is to a 901/01. Give it a couple of extra cylinders and some overhead cams and... well, you've got one of the winningest engines in race history. Now that I've firmly planted my foot in my mouth I'll tap dance my way outa here... I've met quite a few 911 guys that "GET IT". They have a sense of humor, they actually know how to work on their cars. You'll find a bunch of them huddled around the early 911S registry board or in the R-Gruppe. I wish I could have a standard psych. test that would do the weinie screening... you could have a pretty cool site like www.911club.com. Kinda like guitar players and bass players (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol3.gif) Us guitar players have always been competitive while the bass players tend to gather-round and form a community. So... I'm a guitar player in bass player's clothing and a Neunelfer in the teener club. I like it here. |
