The link I have provided gives the color codes for various 914 years. On my COA it states the color for my '72 /6 is a Gemini Metalic Blue code /86
When checking on the link I find the code is given as L96E for that color. What is going on here?

What is going on here?

well, that's a little confusing ...

there were 2 types of colour code, the "VW-Code" and the "Porsche-Code"

the VW-Code is the Lxxx Code - gemini blue metallic = L96E
the Porsche-Code is the xx10 Code - gemini blue metallic = 8610

all 914-4 used the "VW-Code"

most 914-6 used the "Porsche-Code"
all MY'70
most MY'71 - up to around VIN 9141430400

all later 914-6 used the "VW-Code"
